Position Announcement

The Department of Teacher Education at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time position Instructor of the Practice in Elementary Teacher Education. This position is well-suited for an experienced K-6 classroom teacher in possession of a Master's degree, and who seeks the opportunity to teach and coach pre-service teacher candidates at the university level.

Responsibilities

  • Teach equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester. Teaching responsibilities include lower-division prerequisite education courses such as Introduction to Education, Educational Psychology, Multicultural Education, and Technology for Education; selected teacher education program courses, such as Classroom Management and Curriculum Development; and supervision of program students during field experiences.
  • Perform defined faculty duties, including:
  • Develop course materials in accordance with University curriculum and accreditation expectations.
  • Assist in the development and alignment of program curriculum.
  • Use the Canvas course management system.
  • Hold office hours.
  • Maintain required documentation of student learning in courses.
  • Align courses to satisfy state teaching competencies.
  • Attend department, college, and university meetings and events.
  • Adhere to college and university policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Department chair.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a field related to teacher education required.
  • Five (5) or more years of elementary teaching experience (grades K-6) in a public school required.
  • Documented experience in mentoring or instructional coaching (i.e., mentor teacher, instructional coach, professional development provider); experience working with pre-service teachers is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in effective teaching strategies. Finalists will be required to demonstrate competence through a teaching demonstration with UT students.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to work collaboratively with Teacher Education faculty.
  • Competency in the use of technology.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) professional-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2025, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2025. Annual salary of $51,000-$55,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
