Job Description:

  • The purpose of this position is to deliver program curriculum and instruction to adult participants in the academic areas of (reading, writing, English, mathematics) that facilitates the successful achievement of
  • goals established in the Adult Learning Plan (ALP). Instruction is according to the individual needs of each participant as measured by pre and post testing with adult education state required assessment.
  • Providing coaching and guidance for other program activities as it pertains to students' enrollment, attendance, participation, and educational goals.


Role & Responsibilities:

  • 1. Responsible for teaching students in a classroom setting. Uses teaching techniques to provide
  • foundational and advance learning experiences that will lead to skill enhancement toward educational goals.
  • 2. Provides appropriate curriculum and ensures students achieve specific competencies through classroom instruction, developing lesson plans, and assessment.
  • 3. Provides instructional delivery and course management in the following areas: writing, social studies, science, reading and mathematics; teaches through a variety of methods including lecture,
  • hands-on activities, and team teaching.
  • 4. Advises students about educational opportunities such as college, trade schools, and post GED options
  • 5. Assists learners to develop exemplary work habits and learn how to work on their own.
  • 6. Works collectively with networked computer software to monitor learner progress and assist learners with adult learning plan (ALP).
  • 7. Participate in staff, regional, and state-wide meetings and professional development activities
  • 8. Provide monthly reports and/or activities to Director as necessary.
  • 9. Tailor the program to ensure that teaching/tutoring standards meet the needs of the participant, and implement intervention strategies.
  • 10. To provide guidance/coaching that encourages further education, training skills, or employment.
  • 11. Track the number of students served, services delivered, and outcomes achieved in the MAERS
  • (Michigan Adult Education Reporting System) and ETO (Efforts to Outcomes) Data System.
  • 12. Responsible for determining eligibility for the program and the required documentation for enrollment.
  • 13. Create a positive impression of the college and the department by providing helpful, accurate information to persons or participants of interest.
  • 14. Ensure the delivery of high-quality customer services to students, faculty, staff and administration using tact, curtesy, and diplomacy.
  • 15. Maintain currency of knowledge related to Adult Education at the college, local, and state level affecting adult learners.
  • 16. Fulfill other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or college administration.
  • 17. Timely & consistent attendance.


Position Requirements:

  • 1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education with a current and valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate in elementary or secondary education.
  • 2. Three (3) years of professional experience in education; adult education and/or K-12.
  • 3. Must possess good organizational skills and be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • 4. Ability to appropriately use and demonstrate proficiency at the Basic level of MS Word and Excel, including web-based software and resources.
  • 5. Strong customer service skills to effectively address the needs of students, customers, faculty, staff and the general public.
  • 6. Ability to maintain confidentiality on all information regarding student, staff, and faculty communications and personal information.
  • 7. Ability to work with accuracy with minimum supervision.
  • 8. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • 9. Willing to take accountability for and ownership of work, job and office operations; dependable and reliable.
  • 10. Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing work situations that may include evening and weekend work assignments, and local/regional travel.
