Position Summary

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry's rapidly changing workforce needs by providing local San Antonio college students with public utility career experience. Through the internship program students are paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experience that expands their understanding of how the industry works and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to be successful. The internship is not only meant for the intern to learn how to perform, but to also understand the rationale behind the strategies that are being used.

The primary purpose of the Strategic Alignment, Planning and Performance (SAPP) team intern is to support enhancing our performance monitoring programs. Our performance monitoring programs encompass the end-to-end processes of performance measure collection, storage, audit, analysis, and reporting using dashboards and reports. Responsibilities of this intern: include, but are not limited to, supporting other analysts to provide enterprise and business unit level services to facilitate the design, development, and implementation of the enterprise performance monitoring initiatives.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide analysis, consultation, recommendations, reporting, and support to the business units to promote quality products and services.
  • Demonstrate and apply business insights including, but not limited to: performance management (metrics, initiatives, and milestones); and benchmarking and historical data.
  • Effectively coordinate and facilitate various meetings related to performance monitoring.
  • Support the monthly status report-out of each unit's business plan by facilitating the corporate-wide update of the Corporate Metric Tracking (CMT) system and reviewing the data for quality and accuracy, including: quality assurance and analytic evaluation of metric data to ensure consistency, timeliness, accuracy, and an independent assessment of progress toward the achievement of business unit targets. troubleshooting and resolving report issues; and researching, evaluating, and implementing a new or revamped reporting system solution.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of performance monitoring documentation and communicate changes to all appropriate stakeholders to continuously improve the process.
  • Ensure integration with strategic planning, risk planning & mitigation, compliance, budget processes, and performance management for all business units throughout the organization.
  • Support process improvement initiatives that enhance operational, technology and cost efficiency, providing services geared toward solving near-term and long-term problems.
  • Perform other duties and serve on special project teams as assigned.

Minimum Skills
Personal Computer Usage
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Must be currently enrolled in a related discipline.
A minimum GPA of 2.5.
Must currently reside within 120 miles of CPS Energy Headquarters.
