Our ocean hardware development team is seeking a hands-on Electrical Engineer interested in designing sensor systems for harsh (primarily subsurface ocean) environments. Most of our sensors work at low frequencies (<1kHz) and require low-power and low-noise design techniques. We're looking for a hands-on engineer who is excited to collaborate on designing new sensors, circuits and systems starting from requirements and physical principles, and working together to build, debug, test and integrate them into a larger system for successful field testing. The ideal candidate will thrive in a multidisciplinary team setting and is passionate about designing novel sensing technologies. This position is based in our Falls Church, VA office. This is an exempt, non-supervisory, full-time position.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Design your own novel underwater sensors using your own opamp- and component-level circuit and PCB designs.
  • Get these systems working on the bench and collect and analyze test and calibration data.
  • Write firmware and software to make the system go, typically using microcontroller C, FreeRTOS, Python or other languages.
  • Work with mechanical engineers to fit the design into a package that can survive harsh environments.
  • Take the system to the field to show it works! (travel typically 10-20%)
