Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Supervisor - Molecular Lab.

In this role, the successful candidate supervises staff and ensures the proper performance of workflows, procedures, and operations in the Molecular Pathology laboratory. Assists Laboratory Manager in ensuring regulatory compliance for the molecular pathology laboratory and assists in implementation of laboratory specific Quality control program.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Supervision of staff: assigns responsibilities, evaluates and documents staff performance and performs personnel counseling. Reviews work performed by staff to ensure consistent high quality. Conducts annual performance reviews and maintains employee files. Sets staffing schedule and workflow plans consistent with the needs of the department.

2. Staff Development, Evaluation and Counseling: Recognizes and identifies staff needs and develops programs to meet needs. Offers guidance and provides resources for improving performance standards. Participates in staff retention and recruitment activities. Monitors and continually works to improve staff productivity and accuracy.

3. Quality Assurance and Quality Control: Maintains relevant records consistent with regulatory standards. Works with Laboratory Manager, Medical Director(s), and Quality Systems Manager on QA initiatives and process development.

4. Procedure development: Assists Laboratory Manager in the development of technical and operational procedures. Effectively trains staff on all new procedures and/or processes as directed by the Laboratory Manager.

5. Laboratory Workflow: Assists the Laboratory Manager in improving relevant laboratory workflow processes in conjunction with Medical Director(s). Oversees daily laboratory workflow/operations and brings any concerns to the Laboratory Manager or Medical Directors as appropriate.

6. Understands use and limits of staff over-time. Effectively manages over-time use.

7. Equipment procurement: Orders supplies and equipment as needed. Uses supplies and resources in a cost-effective manner. Works with vendor to order equipment and service/troubleshoot equipment. Ensures up to date PM and service on all instrumentation.

8. Regulatory Compliance: Works with the Laboratory Manager and MedicalDirector(s) to ensure regulatory compliance for the molecular pathology laboratory. Ensures compliance with CAP, NYS, Joint Commission, CMS, and EPA, etc.

9. Ensures the departmental and institutional biohazard, chemical, hazardous waste, infection control, and other safety polices are followed in the laboratory.

10. Performs other duties as assigned..

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Five years experience in molecular pathology as a technologist.
  • One year experience in a molecular pathology supervisory role.
  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills preferred.
  • NYS licensed as a clinical laboratory technologist.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Biological sciences Plus 2 years experience.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $81,325.15 - $135,541.73 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
