Department:SOLID WASTE DEPARTMENT Organizational Unit:Disposal (50000094) Position Type:Permanent Full Time/Part Time:Full Time Open Until Filled. $17.73 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Travels Countywide. Work schedule is variable and includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs entry-level technical work in hazardous materials management activities at the Solid Waste Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers. Work involves daily handling of chemicals and household hazardous waste and frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE). REQUIREMENTS:A high school diploma, or its equivalent,PLUSone (1) year of experience in hazardous waste materials handling, environmental science, chemistry, biology, or a closely related field. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must possess, or obtain within six (6) months of employment, a valid OSHA twenty-four (24) hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification, in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120, and maintain said certification during the term of employment.Must possess, or obtain within six (6) months of employment, a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) eight (8) hour Hazardous Materials Transportation certification and maintain said certification during the term of employment. Must successfully complete, within six (6) months of employment, an OSHA-compliant forklift training course that meets the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.178 and be able to safely operate a forklift. Must satisfactorily complete, within nine (9) months of employment, all of the Brevard County Mandatory Training for the Development of New Employees. Must be physically capable at all times of properly wearing and utilizing all required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must be able to work Saturdays and holidays as required. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
