Description

The Researcher IV will perform independent and/or directed research activities to fulfill the aims of the laboratory's projects under the direction of the laboratory Principle Investigator (Pl), Dr. Bruce Frankel in the Department of Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, IL. Broadly, this laboratory addresses oncological research initiatives in glioblastoma. The primary activities of the Researcher V will be to work in a collaborative environment to design experiments, write grants, execute experiments, analyze data, and prepare manuscripts.

The position is one year in duration and will be renewed annually based on Researcher IV performance and funding availability.


Examples of Duties

Administration 10%
  • Help obtain information relevant to making purchase decisions.
  • Help order approved laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Assist with scheduling experiments, laboratory equipment usage and availability.
Teaching 10%
  • Assist in training students and laboratory staff.
Research 80%
  • Conduct investigator-initiated research projects under the general supervision of the Pl.
  • Prepare reagents used for experiments with accuracy and consistency.
  • Perform data reduction and analysis.
  • Maintain detailed records of laboratory work performed.

Qualifications

Ph.D., or MA/MS degree in appropriate field plus a minimum of six years relevant experience or a BA/BS degree with twelve years of relevant experience.
