Description

Under the general direction of the SIU Health Care Executive Director of Revenue Cycle, the incumbent manages a variety of tasks and staff within the Revenue Cycle including but not limited to the developing and maintaining productivity measures for all areas of revenue cycle; providing detailed reporting to leadership on performance; creating initiatives for both performance and accuracy in various revenue cycle functions based on best practice; present findings and work with leadership on solutions. The position provides support to the Executive Director Revenue Cycle.


Examples of Duties

Administration 100%

  1. Responsibility for the hiring and evaluating of staff within Quality and Performance team. Assigned responsibilities and duties may be delegated to subordinate staff.
  2. Develop, implement, and monitor the budget necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the entire unit. Monitor and when appropriate prepare requests for additional staff and resources to ensure the timely and effective performance of assigned functions. Processes all payroll adjustments including fringe benefit reporting. Retrieves reports from AIS and serves as the fiscal officer of the unit.
  3. Develop and maintain relationships with leaders across SIU Medicine. Monitor production and performance of these departments and provide reports and statistical analysis to the administrators and department leadership.
  4. Develop, implement, and monitor productivity measures across all areas of revenue cycle including, but not limited to coding, cash management, credentialing, custom service, insurance follow-up, non-RSS/pre-arrival, registration, and scheduling.
  5. Develop, implement and routinely monitor a process around charge capture reconciliation to make sure all charges are being posted for services being performed by billing providers.
  6. Prepare production and performance reports; statistical analysis; documentation of decision rationale; data preparation and provide recommendations for coaching and performance improvement plans. Monitor the distribution of production and special reports.
  7. Work with the SIU HC Information Systems unit in identifying, developing, and implementing automated systems and processes, which enhance the overall effectiveness of the unit.
  8. Develop, implement, monitor and control the development of procedures, systems and mechanisms for an efficient and effective accounts receivable management process.
  9. Utilizes basic statistical concepts, tools and techniques and maintains awareness of advanced topics.
  10. Strives to reduce complexity in work and implementation.
  11. Ensures proper documentation through auditing.
  12. Develop and maintain positive communication with other units within SIU Health Care, clinical departments, and School of Medicine administrators.
  13. Effectively utilizes new and existing tools, methodologies, and technologies to solve business problems and provides solutions that enhance operations, capabilities, and competitiveness
  14. Educates team members and staff who touch the identified initiative/system, providing just in time training using adult learning techniques
  15. Monitors compliance of various departmental and/or divisional processes to ensure that SIU HC policies and procedures are adhered to in a manner which maximize reimbursement.
  16. Monitors outcomes, key performance indicators and financial results of improvement initiatives and report to the Director and senior Leadership
  17. Attend seminars/workshops for continuing education regarding performance and quality measures, optimization, and standards.
  18. Functions as a representative of the Director during his/her absence and/or as delegated.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Eleven (11) years of progressively responsible management work experience in a private or governmental organization:

  • Eight (8) years in patient accounting or other comparable area in a healthcare environment (Note: A Master's degree in an area related to the position may be substituted for one (1) year of this experience)
AND
  • Three (3) years supervising the work of a professional staff or process in patient accounting or other comparable area in a healthcare environment (Note: A Bachelor's degree may be substituted for the three (3) years of this experience.)
