DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

UCDC is a system-wide program of the nine University of California undergraduate campuses at Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz. The Program provides residential, internship, and instructional experiences for UC students (and faculty) within Washington's rich cultural, political, and international environment. The Program is housed at the Washington Center, an 11-story building that includes offices, classrooms, and living space for more than 270 students in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC.

POSITION SUMMARY

Applies professional student services concepts. Provides varied student services to students, faculty, and department / school / college management. Works on moderately complex issues. Receives assistance on more complex issues. This position is based in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

  • 60% Serves as primary UCDC contact for students, internship organizations, and campus staff on internship-related responsibilities such as deadlines, forms, evaluations, and policies. Maintains and continues to learn the experiential education software (Symplicity) for the development of the internship database, student tracking, reporting, professional development, and other functions. Supports accepted students as they search and procure internships by communicating through email and Zoom or Teams to review internship application materials (e.g., resumes, cover letters), provide guidance in using the UCDC internship database and other search tools, and offer assistance with interviewing, negotiating offers, and developing work plans. Evaluates and reports student participation in the program to UCDC staff, UC campus staff, and UCOP administrators, as required. Assists in resolving professional performance, misconduct, and other issues between employers or internship supervisors and students. Works with UCDC communications team to update webpages and other informational documentation for accepted students.
  • 30% Manages and cultivates relationships with current and new internship providers. Identifies organizations with early deadlines to share with students.
  • 5% Assists in administrative tasks associated with the UCDC program. Representing UCDC, when appropriate, at experiential and internship related meetings and conferences in DC; may make presentations.
  • 5% Works collaboratively on creating and developing professional development programming. Assists in the development and implementation of orientation and other materials and sessions to provide support for students seeking internships and transitioning from campus to DC and the workplace.

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in advising or career services, or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum 2 years of strong verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal and presentation skills; ability to communicate information in small and large group settings.
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with people from a broad range of backgrounds.

Pay scale:
This is a non-exempt, hour-paid position. The annual pay scale is $65,000 - $75,600 ($31.13 hr. - $36.20 an hour).

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
