Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Early Career Researcher to work in our Nuclear Safety and Regulatory Research department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

The Nuclear Safety and Regulatory Research Division in the Nuclear Science & Technology directorate works to ensure the nation's safe, competitive, and sustainable use of engineered systems in many domains by applying our capabilities to impactful issues in risk, reliability, and operational performance. We help to enable the INL's vision of changing the world's energy future and securing our nation's critical infrastructure. We employ staff members with cross-cutting skills and specialized knowledge, including probabilistic risk analysis, software development, statistics, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, automation, instrumentation & controls, nuclear safety, and human factors.

Responsibilities Include:



  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers on challenging work scope. Work with all partners to identify requirements and commercially available technologies that meet specific specifications. Collaborate and partner with other government agencies, academia, and private sector companies to achieve project goals. Decompose project goals into defined and controlled design requirements.
  • Use design methodologies, technologies, and processes which are best practice for the technical discipline to develop a design, and to validate that the design meets defined requirements.
  • Develop physics-based mathematical models of mechanical, chemical, and electrical systems to support and verify design.
  • Establish testing, inspection, and quality requirements.
  • Ensure that analysis needs are recorded and clearly understood. Document the design (controlled and approved models, drawings, specifications, and design descriptions) to establish conformance with design requirements and applicable codes and standards.
  • Ensure that data and analysis generated by the instruments is of high quality and meet customer and user needs.
  • Participate in professional development activities aimed at keeping pace with industry developments. Maintain familiarity with and technical understanding of codes and standards applicable to the discipline.
  • Maintain knowledge of latest technologies and applications to the nuclear industry.
  • You will report to the Department Manager

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:




  • BS in a relevant domain, including nuclear engineering; electrical engineering; computer science; human factors; mechanical engineering, or related fields.



  • BS in relevant domain plus 2 years work experience; MS in a relevant domain, including nuclear engineering; electrical engineering; computer science; human factors; mechanical engineering, or related fields




Job Information:



  • The pay range for this position is: Level #1 ($63,529.00 - $130,284.00) / Level #2 ($75,804.00 - $155,496.00). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • You are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
