As a Senior Scientist, you will lead research efforts focused on the development of next generation contact lenses and innovative materials for medical devices. This role requires a strong expertise in material science, especially in understanding the structure-property relationship of materials and demands an innovative mindset to drive research forward. This role will be in Johns Creek, GA, and a typical day will include:
- Drive research projects aimed at designing and developing advanced contact lens materials, process, and packaging saline for biomedical applications.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of the structure-property relationship of materials, as well as the ability to apply an innovative mindset to overcome challenges and drive product development.
- Identifies and implements appropriate testing methodologies to evaluate potential new contact lenses, lens surfaces, package saline and lens care products.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate industry advancements, trends, and technologies in material science, polymer chemistry, and relevant technologies to enhance and guide research initiatives. Files all new material concepts through invention disclosures and support patent filings as required to protect intellectual property, leveraging innovative research outcomes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams using relevant statistical techniques and methods to develop, execute, and analyze experimental protocols. Documents experimental results details and conclusions in appropriate formats (laboratory notebook, memo and/or report) and present research findings to stakeholders.
- Mentor junior scientists and technicians, sharing expertise and fostering a collaborative research environment.
- Handles, uses, stores and disposes all lab used chemicals as outlined in MSDS, SOP and other company prescribed, state and federal guidelines. Also, complies with all company established Health, Safety and Environment operational requirements, regulatory, and quality including good documentation practices.
What You'll Bring To Alcon:
- Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
- The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
- 2 Years of Relevant Experience
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with hydrogel polymeric materials, intraocular lens materials and ocular health products are desired
- Background in Material Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering.
- Experience with formulation, adhesion chemistry and composite material R&D are desired
- Able to work in a highly diverse environment within our share capability team
- Able to apply engineering principles to assigned projects is desired (DOE and SPC)
