Job Summary: The Sheet Metal Fabricator is responsible for creating, shaping, and assembling metal components and structures according to blueprints and specifications. This role involves operating various machinery, performing precise measurements, and ensuring that finished products meet quality standards and customer requirements. A successful candidate will have knowledge of/prior experience fabricating exhaust hoods, HVAC ductwork, and various sheet metal components for the HVAC/R installation industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Blueprint/drawing Interpretation: Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to determine specifications and layout for metal components.
  • Metal Fabrication: Operate machinery such as shears, presses, and Welders, to cut, bend, and shape metal sheets according to the specified dimensions and design.
  • Welding and Assembly: Perform welding tasks (MIG, TIG, or arc) to join metal parts together. Assemble fabricated components into final products or structures using hand tools and equipment.
  • Quality Control: Inspect finished products for accuracy, adherence to specifications, and overall quality. Make adjustments as necessary to meet design requirements and standards.
  • Machine Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on fabrication equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety guidelines.
  • Material Handling: Manage and organize raw materials and finished products. Ensure proper storage and handling to prevent damage or waste.
  • Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to fabrication processes, equipment malfunctions, and material defects.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, designers, and other team members to achieve project goals and meet production deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or an associate degree in sheet metal fabrication or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a sheet metal fabricator or similar role.
  • Proficiency in using fabrication tools and machinery, including shears, brakes, and welding equipment.
  • Strong understanding of blueprints, technical drawings, and metalworking techniques.
  • Ability to measure and cut metal with precision.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move heavy materials and equipment.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Comfort with standing, bending, and working in various positions for extended periods.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is typically performed in a fabrication shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, and occasional fumes.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and hearing/foot protection is required.
