Job Description:


  • The Hampton and Peninsula Health Districts(HPHD) is seeking a Harm Reduction Coordinator to oversee and administrate our harm reduction program.
  • The program is focused on individuals who are using substances or their families/support persons. The HRC must have an understanding of and respect for, each individual's unique path to recovery. The coordinator must have a working knowledge of the drug and alcohol treatment systems and a demonstrated commitment to the recovery community.
  • The Harm Reduction Coordinator's role is to direct the day-to-day services of the district's harm reduction program, order and inventory resources, complete required documentation, facilitate and present harm reduction public education, and support the Peer Recovery Specialists.
  • The coordinator will serve as the overall administrator of the district's harm reduction program.



Specific Job Duties/Core Competencies

  • Provide a supportive environment to clients where you can identify and build on strengths and enable them to empower themselves, recognizing that there are multiple pathways to achieve recovery.
  • Order, inventory, and keep accurate records of necessary resources and supplies.
  • Critique and optimize existing harm reduction workflow and procedures.
  • Maintain project logs, reports, and records in appropriate files and database(s).
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to seek wrap-around services, protect the rights of the client, and assist in reducing associated stigma.
  • Train the client in the use of personal and community resources.
  • Develop relationships with community groups/agencies in partnership with others in the agency.
  • Work with HPHD staff and other community professionals to implement and promote Harm Reduction activities in the community.
  • Develop, implement, and promote ongoing community training opportunities and outreach.
  • Work in cooperation with the client's family members, other providers, and significant others who are involved in the client's recovery plan.
  • Identify barriers (internal and external) to full participation in community resources and develop strategies to overcome those barriers.
  • Observe all rules of confidentiality relating to clinical information and treatment, both internally and when dealing externally with agencies and individuals.
  • Maintain professional conduct standards at all times, following the guidelines outlined by the Hampton and Peninsula Health Districts.
  • Supervise clinical staff.


Team and Professional Development:

  • Coordinates activities with supervisor to ensure optimum use of time and effort.
  • Attends staff meetings and community meetings.
  • Participates in in-services, workshops, and classes to maintain knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs). Attends program-required training/educational sessions.
  • Identifies and requests attendance at appropriate educational programs to enhance job performance.
  • Will be responsible for supervising, managing, and developing the Peer Recovery Specialist personnel.
  • Facilitates REVIVE and ACEs course training.


Preferred requirements/KSAs

  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles.
  • Proficient ability with Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
  • The ability to communicate information clearly and efficiently.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • REVIVE and ACEs certified a plus.
  • Knowledge and ability to speak a second language a plus.


Qualifications

  • Highschool Diploma/GED.
  • Part- or full-time paid work experience with clinical operations or program supervision.
  • Personal experience with substance use services.


Certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist.
