Location: Belle Glade, FL 33430

Pay Rate: $ 25.00- $29.00/Hour without benefits

Duration: Long term

Shift Timing (Day/ Evening/ Night): Day

Working Hours: 7:00 am - 3:00 pm: Monday to Friday

Required Education:



  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent. Vocational certification or Licensed Journeyman preferred.


Job Description:



  • Minimum (1) years of experience in one (1) of the following skilled trades for mechanical systems, e.g., plumbing; heating/ventilation/air conditioning/refrigeration (HVACR); appliance installation and maintenance; sheet metal maintenance and fabrication.
  • Ability to identify safety-sensitive / emergency maintenance requests received from school or facilities staff and properly prioritize requests in the context of existing work orders and schedule.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, building code requirements for educational facilities, life safety codes, and other regulatory codes and standards applicable to the work.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and applicable building and other regulatory codes.
  • Ability to work from manufacturer specifications, blueprints, technical drawings, diagrams, schematics and other documentation applicable to the trade(s).
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team structure.
  • Ability to serve on-call to provide technical assistance as necessary.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups, and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards and hazard control measures when working on or near electrically energized equipment and/or devices.
  • Knowledge of current computing technologies and software applications appropriate to the position's responsibilities.
  • Valid State of Florida driver's license.
  • Trained in arc flash (levels 1-3) hazard identification and risk assessment.
  • HVAC Universal Certification required when assigned to HVAC or appliance trade. When assigned to plumbing, Backflow Prevention Certification required or ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of assignment.


Role & Responsibilities:



  • Performs skilled inspections, testing and troubleshooting tasks utilizing various diagnostic tools, technologies and equipment to identify malfunctions or equipment/component
  • failures; determines underlying cause(s) and takes corrective measures to prevent future breakdowns/failures.
  • Performs skilled installation, maintenance, and repairs on mechanical systems, equipment, devices and components in at least one of the skilled trades for plumbing, HVACR, and/or sheet metal maintenance and fabrication.
  • In skilled plumbing, works on the various types of equipment, e.g., lift stations, back flows, commercial equipment, boilers, swimming pools, fire hydrants.
  • In skilled HVACR, works on various types of equipment, e.g., residential units, DX/split units,
  • exhaust fans, troubleshooting chillers, and basic energy management system work (schedules, temperatures, airflow).

  • In journey-level appliance/refrigeration, works on the following equipment: refrigeration systems, holding equipment, ovens, boilerless steamers, combi ovens, titling skillets; and at least one (1) of the following: exhaust hood control systems, gas systems, fire suppression and hood cleaning systems, dish machine and disposal (to include waste pulping systems).
  • Accompanies vendors onsite and monitors the work of vendors as directed.
  • Reads and interprets manufacturer specifications, blueprints, schematics, diagrams, technical drawings and other related documentation applicable to the assigned trade area(s).
  • Adheres to preventive and scheduled maintenance protocols to ensure optimal functioning and operational/resource efficiencies, thereby minimizing downtime and excessive cost.
  • Participates in periodic and required training initiatives in adherence to departmental standards, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) laws and regulations, and other industry and regulatory standards governing workplace safety practices and procedures (e.g., lockout tagout, arc flash).
  • Ensures hand tools, diagnostic tools and equipment, project materials, and assigned vehicles are properly inventoried, maintained and serviced.
  • Maintains appropriate logs, records and documentation regarding assigned tasks/projects; prepares materials for work orders utilizing department technology and software applications.
  • Participates in cross-training initiatives to develop and expand skills and abilities in related trades and to support departmental operational and resource efficiencies.
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry trends and technology developments for application to skilled trade area(s) of assignment.
