Husbandry Technician l

We have an exciting opportunity for a Husbandry Technician l to join our ARC Research Services team. The Husbandry Technician l Care Technician I provides for the daily care of rodent species in standard and specialized husbandry settings. This includes performing regularly scheduled cage changing in conventional and high-density barrier housing areas, observing animals for abnormalities, and maintaining adequate food and water supplies in enclosures.

This role will be responsible for operating within routine animal environments and in specialized animal housing areas such as quarantine, SPF production areas, or biohazard containment. It will also maintain a high standard of customer service and communicate effectively with research personnel, ARC staff, and representatives from outside institutions. The Technologist is expected to design and execute in vivo projects in their entirety through collaboration with research personnel.

The ARC Research Services unit provides real-time technical advanced in vivo services to push research from concept to publication in record time by removing training and skill barriers for our researchers at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Job Responsibilities:

• Execute assigned animal husbandry tasks with guidance (e.g., maintenance of animal holding & procedure rooms; routine sanitation; food and water supply & drug dosing management; scheduled cage changing).

• Perform routine techniques on animals (e.g., treatments, formalin fixation) as per defined guidelines.

• Assist in veterinary treatments on research models, special observations, and other study-directed requests.

• Maintain accurate documentation and records as required.

• Escalate issues and problems according to set standards and SOPs.

• Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.

• Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

State the minimum education and/or training required.

• High School Diploma/GED required.

Minimum Experience:

State the minimum years of experience required to do this job successfully.

• Experience in animal care, veterinary facilities, or animal husbandry-related fields is preferred.

• Some experience with disinfection, sterilization, sanitation, and environmental microbiological analysis preferred.

• Some experience with changes in animal health conditions preferred.

• Some experience operating animal caging and sanitation equipment is preferred.
