App Dev Summer Internship

Programme starts June 2025

Our App Dev Summer Internship Programme has been crafted so that you can understand what a career in the Post Trade Application Development team at LSEG would really be like. Our internships are actual roles within LSEG. As an intern, you play a part in the success of our organisation.

This position is within the Application Development Team within the Post Trade Engineering division based in New York.

To be eligible, you must be in your penultimate year of graduate study and due to complete your degree on or before summer 2026. You should have a predicted PhD or master's degree in Math, Physics, Financial Engineering, Computer Science or other quantitative fields.

Internship Summary

The Application Development team creates the systems that deliver the service to clients. It is this team's responsibility to design and build systems that permit financial market participants to securely provide risk and trade data to the company, to deliver that data into the quantitate algorithms developed by the quants, and to return the output of those libraries safely back to the participants in a timely manner.In addition, the systems should provide feedback to the clients to help them understand the results as well as how they can modify their parameters and data to gain improvements in the future. Our systems live in the cloud, currently hosted by AWS.

The successful candidate will work as part of a small team of 5-7 developers to build and research improvements to the applications & environment. They will work directly with product management team to enhance the product based on feedback from clients and analysis of runs as well as on strategic projects. Examples of possible projects, all of which will involve writing a program in python, include:

  • Design and build a Data Masking Tool to allow us to generate data-sets for development and testing without compromising real client data
  • Simulate the creation and evolution of a compression scenario to automate parts of the QA process performed by products team
  • Build a chat-bot to post messages to our internal chat room regarding status of runs and application infrastructure

Desired skills:

  • Current MSc/MEng student in a STEM discipline
  • Solid understanding of python for executable & repeatable programs (as opposed to data analytics). In particular, familiarity with pandas, numpy & dask
  • Experience with the unix command line
  • Some experience with AWS
  • Knowledge of Interest Rate Swaps
  • Excellent communication & problem-solving skills

LSEG is committed to offering competitive Compensation and Benefits. The anticipated base salary for this position is $0 - $0. Please be aware base salary ranges may vary by geographic location, city and state. In addition to our offered base salary, this role is eligible for our Variable Incentive Compensation plan. Target variable compensation will be commensurate with the posted career stage. Individual salary will be reflective of job related knowledge, skills and equivalent experience.
