Job Description: The Unregistered Medical Technologist/MLS performs a variety of laboratory tests of varying complexity to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Job Specifics:
The Unregistered Med Tech/MLS performs testing in various departments of the clinical lab, such as Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Transfusion, and more. These scientists act as a technical expert to clinical staff, co-workers, and other departments. They are critical to patient diagnosis and care, ensuring accurate results through quality control, proficiency testing, calibrations, record review, instrument maintenance, and results/analyzer troubleshooting. This position requires organizational skills as well as the ability to navigate many technical processes with a high level of detail. These caregivers work well as a member of a team and maintain a clean and safe work environment. After gaining experience in a designated field, the Unregistered MLS may qualify to take a certification exam (i.e. ASCP, AAB, AMT) to become a Categorical Registered Med Tech/MLS.
