DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will engage in a 12-month training program aimed at equipping you with the skills necessary to serve as an Environmental Engineering Specialist. Your responsibilities will include supporting the permitting process within the public water supply program. This entails aiding in the development, revision, and maintenance of the Department's design manuals, regulations, forms, and technical guidance documents pertinent to public water system permitting. You will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer. Additionally, the role involves assessing lead and copper corrosion control technologies and ensuring simultaneous compliance with permits, as well as offering training and technical support related to these permitting processes to the regulated community, engineering consultants, and Department personnel. The assignments will encompass a range of complex tasks, requiring the application and interpretation of intricate regulatory standards, engineering design principles, and a comprehensive understanding of public water supply treatment systems and technologies. This role plays a vital part in advancing the public health and safety goals of the SDW Program by ensuring that public water systems are effectively planned, designed, constructed, and operated in compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act and associated regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are negotiable between 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $64,861 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • A bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, or in any engineering field that includes or is supplemented by 9 credits in environmental engineering.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
