Job Purpose

This position exists to assist in development, application, maintenance, and enhancement of the quality systems for EnerSys specifically regarding SVRLA. (Submarine Valve Regulated Lead Acid) The incumbent shall develop and maintain quality department documentation and quality information systems. This position is primarily responsible for managing manufacturing quality assurance and projects related to continual product quality improvements, with focus on projects related to SVRLA support. This is accomplished by being the quality engineer managing compliance to contracts and ensuring that manufacturing is capable of meeting those requirements, ensure all paperwork and documents pertaining to orders have been signed off by the appropriate people. Will work closely with customers, Corporate EAS, Corporate Quality, and technical engineering on projects and activities related to product quality improvements.

This will include formal reporting for the customer (including the U.S. Navy) and day to day project interactions. Projects will be focused on improving quality through SPC, upstream and downstream quality improvement, current and historical data analysis, and tracking product quality.

This position requires working with production team leaders, production associates, quality technicians, and engineers to facilitate quality improvements to products and process in a team like environment. Work with suppliers and customers when conducting audits. Also statistical analysis of processes and products is required to define root cause corrective action. Lead ISO 9001, FAA, and Military internal and external audits to provide for quality improvements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Will be responsible for formal reporting to the customer (For example, the U.S. Navy) on project activities to meet contractual obligations, and for internal reporting on project activities. Provide for multivariate analysis of all processing variables to determine life of SVRLA products.
Will be the primary quality contact for the customer on day to day activities related to ongoing projects and activities.
Coordinates and conducts product quality improvement projects with the objective of identifying optimal quality conditions to maximize product performance and life in specific applications.
Uses skills to support cost improvement programs.
Supports projects driven both locally and globally.
Prepares reports detailing activities.
Utilizes Root Cause Analysis techniques on products to identify opportunities for improvement
Drives continual improvement activities within the facility specifically regarding SVRLA. Coordinates quality-engineering activities with manufacturing, engineering, technical and other quality personnel. These activities include capability studies, gage studies, design reviews, & FMEA's
Assist in timely resolution of corrective and preventive actions with both suppliers and customers. Communicates with customers on a continual basis for Quality Assurance support.
Creates and provides training to departmental and facility personnel on Quality Assurance techniques and improvements.
Lead meetings to ensure root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions is completed in a timely manner. This includes unplanned quality problems from suppliers, customers and EnerSys manufacturing processes.
Identifies and resolves technical problems of significant complexity, and suggests corrective action measures to management.
Develops and publishes documentation for effective quality systems to ensure compliance with ISO 9001.
Prepares standard reports, summarizes, and maintains records. Develops written quality improvement plans, with the ability to give reports orally to management.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
BS in Engineering/Technology/Business with two years experience in a quality engineering role, or equivalent combined education and experience. Strong knowledge of manufacturing and quality control methods and experience in the lead-acid battery industry.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Strong written and verbal English skills

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Higher than average knowledge of mathematics, statistical and quality control methods

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to perform analysis of high complexity. Ability to use standard and special PC software packages to develop spreadsheets for computer reports.
Root cause problem solving

COMPUTER SKILLS
Microsoft Office, MiniTab, Access

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
CQE, CQA, CRE. Preferred

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to use gauging equipment, ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously, to work independently and with minimal supervision,
Ability to read blue prints, military specifications, DoD contracts and technical industry standards .
Able and willing to provide support to a manufacturing operation
Planning, coordinating, and strong interpersonal skills

TRAVEL REQUIRED: Occasional travel to support business needs.
