Description

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is responsible for property maintenance and building operations of MSU Federal Credit Union locations. This position is part of a team that ensures the look, feel, function and safe operation of MSUFCU facilities in a manner that meets and exceeds employee and member expectations. This is a service oriented position that is dedicated to maintaining a comfortable and high quality environment for employees, members, and guests.

Work Arrangement - This position is an onsite working arrangement at our Chicago North Ave. Location (2234 West North Ave.). Expectation to travel to all Chicago and Northern Illinois branches throughout the week. *Vehicle is provided for travel.

Schedule - Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm CT, with a rotated 24 hour on-call shift.

An offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon the agreed work arrangement (onsite/hybrid/remote) and work location. MSU Federal Credit Union may or may not be able to accommodate temporary or permanent changes to work arrangements or allow employment outside the city and/or state of residency in which the new hire resides at the time of offered employment.

Compensation & Benefits:



  • Salary Range:

    • Facilities Maintenance Specialist I - $27.00 - $38.00 per hour, dependent on experience
    • Facilities Maintenance Specialist II - $30.00 - $42.00 per hour, dependent on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Facilities Maintenance Specialist I:



  • Perform facility maintenance and troubleshooting tasks which may include but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, electrical and carpentry work
  • Monitor and respond to building notification systems, and building alarms, and 24 hour calls from monitoring company
  • Respond to various maintenance and service requests by staff members and management
  • Meet and escort vendors and contractors
  • Monitor vendor performance and works closely with outside vendors to ensure work is completed according to plans and specifications, and corporate expectations
  • Assist in maintaining the function and appearance of the Credit Union buildings, systems, furnishings, and fixtures
  • Assist with grounds keeping, snow removal, cleaning, organizational duties, moving furniture and equipment
  • Complete daily work orders as assigned and update manager with work reports outlining progress and new issues
  • Maintain storage rooms, supplies, equipment, and tools maintaining proper order and function
  • Participate in Facilities' maintenance and repair projects
  • Solicit bids from contractors for minor repairs, upgrades, or equipment replacement
  • Keep supervisor or manager advised of any on-going problems not being resolved satisfactorily or that prevents the fulfillment of responsibilities
  • Travel between sites to perform assigned duties including branches throughout Illinois on a regular basis
  • Participate in training activities within your department or branch and with the Learning and Talent Development department; such training helps to ensure staff compliance with Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations and laws
  • Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned


Facilities Maintenance Specialist II:



  • All of Facilities Maintenance Specialist I duties and responsibilities
  • Support functions related to all life safety systems and equipment; participate in maintenance, operation, and testing of these systems
  • Maintain physical security equipment, doors, and hardware, including building security alarms, entry operations, and access control equipment and hardware
  • Responsible for proper maintenance and operation of building power distribution equipment, emergency power generation equipment, and low voltage building control systems
  • Responsible for ongoing predictive and preventative maintenance of HVAC systems. Operate building automation and building management systems to maintain efficient operation and comfortable work environment.
  • Maintain interior and exterior lighting systems, schedule performance testing as required; monitor facilities for lighting deficiencies and correct all deficiencies; manage lamp inventory
  • Assists management by researching predicted maintenance issues
  • Assists management in preparing annual budget
  • Lead maintenance, repair, and capital projects related to the Facilities Department
  • Recognizes, resolves and reports, without direction, deficiencies and defects
  • Shares technical knowledge and skills with others
  • Coordinate with industry professionals and consultants to achieve high quality results


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

    Facilities Maintenance Specialist I:



    • High school diploma required; associates or bachelor's degree highly preferred
    • General mechanical aptitude normally acquired through high school or college course work or equivalent experience, and 3 - 5 years of experience in the field
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft office products
    • Previous experience in construction, skilled trade, maintenance, property management, preferred
    • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills; professional and courteous in dealing with staff and vendors
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a wide variety of variables
    • Must have strong work ethic and intense pride in workmanship
    • Must be a team player committed to working in a quality environment
    • Approachable demeanor and ability to collaborate effectively with others. Exhibit a positive attitude and commitment to excellence.
    • Ability to work varied hours during the week and participate in a 24 hour on-call rotation.


    Facilities Maintenance Specialist II:



    • All of Facilities Maintenance Specialist I knowledge, skills, and abilities
    • Has acquired a trade certifications, specialized trainings, or journeymen's certification
    • General mechanical aptitude normally acquired through high school, college course work, trade schools or equivalent experience and, 5 - 10 years of experience in the field
    • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on rapport-building, customer service, and problem solving


      Physical Demands and Work Environment



      • Frequently needs to move about inside or outside of an office area
      • Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, i.e. robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure
      • Frequently moves equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds for transport between areas of buildings.
      • Must have valid driver's license
      • This position requires onsite presence at the employee's assigned location for all scheduled shifts.
