Learn more about the UC Office of the President Department Overview 40% * Effectively handles the administration and communication of retirement pension benefits programs to retirees, survivors, beneficiaries and contingent annuitants. Coordinates daily benefits processing which may include handling policy and beneficiary changes, health and welfare changes, payroll adjustments, pension calculations, benefit terminations, disability death claims, rollovers, and distributions, etc. Evaluates existing benefit programs and recommends changes and/or new benefit offerings. May work closely with outside or internal legal advisors to ensure compliance and mitigate risks. Counsels employees on benefits-related issues and handles complex escalations/concerns/inquiries from retirees and survivors. Ensures that year-end calculations are accurately processed. 25% * Supports leadership in building a culture of delivering exemplary service to all customers while focusing on operational excellence and process or workflow improvements. Works closely with leadership to ensure that department goals and performance targets are met. Always considers the customer's point-of-view and anticipates customers' needs when dealing with complex written and verbal inquiries from both internal and external clients. Stays current on industry trends, departmental policies and procedures and applies accordingly. 20% * Confers with supervisor and manager to identify, recommend and provide appropriate training to further staff development and on-the-job performance. Supports supervisor and manager in facilitating staff cross-learning across lines of business (i.e., member services, retirement, health and welfare and benefits administration units.) Supports supervisor and manager in facilitating team development functions such as onboarding and mentoring new staff. Participates in industry groups, network with peers, and attend trade shows and conferences to gain insights into competitors' benefits packages. 15% * Serves as a "change agent" who embraces organizational change and encourages colleagues to support pending or newly implemented change initiatives. Takes ownership and is accountable for the member experience, follows through with direct member communication. May support supervisor and manager in developing back-up plans to ensure adequate staff coverage during peak periods, such as holidays. Establishes and builds rapport/relationships with members and colleagues within and outside of RASC. Experience Must have at least 2 years' experience in Pension Administration, Benefits processing, or comparable experience. Skills and Abilities Able to prioritize multiple tasks and deliver reports, projects and results within tight timelines and fast turnarounds; able to proof and audit for accuracy. Exemplary verbal, written, change communication and presentation skills; able to work in a highly collaborative manner and formulate a clear point of view. Able to work with strong personalities and different work styles while remaining calm, tactful, courteous and respectful under pressure. Willingness to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision. Must have an innovative and positive self-directed attitude. Working knowledge of federal and state regulations and filing and compliance requirements along with retirement, health and welfare, benefits administration. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; able to quickly learn new software. Preferred Qualifications Applies knowledge of regulations in order to assure compliance with UCRP and Regulations, UC policy, and pertinent Federal and State regulations including FMLA, Medicare, COBRA, HIPAA, the IRS Code, Probate Code, privacy laws, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and other relevant rules and regulations through application of appropriate controls. Comprehensive and thorough historical knowledge of the UCRP plan document, operational procedures, membership types, impacts of offsets, and how they impact a division of benefits under the plan and survivor requirements. Education Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Operations Management, Marketing, Public Health and/or equivalent work experience or associate's degree and relevant experience.
