Job Functions:

The role of the Community Care Chaplain is to provide Metropolitan Ministries clients, staff, volunteers, and community utilizing a trauma-informed model of spiritual care.

This position requires competence to perform spiritual care functions as needed to support the spiritual and emotional health and wellbeing of those served. This position will help the Spiritual Care department maintain a web of support and connection for clients in Metropolitan Ministries' expanding residential and community programs, as well as supporting staff throughout all departments and programs.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with Director of Spiritual Care and spiritual care team to assess and address spiritual care needs across the organization, to create plan for addressing emergent and critical spiritual care needs, and to respond to critical incidents within the organization.
  2. Conduct spiritual assessments with clients in any of our residential or community programs, identifying and tracking any goals, offering support, and connecting with community resources as appropriate. Track spiritual care visits, assessments, program/group attendance, and other Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Input data into tracking systems and assist with team presentations on KPIs and spiritual care program development.
  3. Work with spiritual care team on planning and leading worship for the Metropolitan Ministries community, including participating in worship service leadership and facilitation, sharing preaching responsibilities, and coordinating client and staff participation. Coordinate and maintain internal schedule to help facilitate worship and discipleship programming.
  4. Provide support to staff in all departments on campuses and mobile teams in assigned county on a consistent basis to build relationships and offer support. Collaborate with spiritual care team on staff support groups and other programs.
  5. Partner with Volunteer Services and Cross-Functional team reaching out to faith partners for support and assistance. Coordinate faith partner volunteer recruitment needs and scheduling with Volunteer Services and be willing to participate in local church and community events.
  6. Provide prayer support for clients in Holiday Tent/Center and Outreach department, and coordinate Prayer Partners program with interns and volunteers. Coordinate with Volunteer Services to recruit, train, and schedule volunteers for Prayer Partners program.
Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Master of Divinity or equivalent
  • 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required (4 preferred).
  • Ordination, Endorsement or licensed for ministry in their community of faith.
  • Previous work experience in pastoral care or chaplaincy required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google documents, and virtual platforms.

Skill Requirements:

Must be able to communicate effectively in English; additional language (Spanish, Kreyol, ASL) skills highly preferred. Ability to recognize and support various pastoral/spiritual care issues. Must be dependable, demonstrate maturity and sensitivity to issues of faith, culture, and other sources of diversity, ability to organize work and attend to detail, and ability to handle job-related matters in a professional and diplomatic manner. Customer service, effective communication, and a positive, helpful attitude are necessary. Dedication to confidentiality and understanding of legal parameters required.

Physical Requirements:

Hearing and speaking ability which allows for effective oral communication of information; physical, emotional and spiritual stamina to handle job-related issues and stress.

Other:

Demonstrates a passion for the mission and vision of Metropolitan Ministries. Position requires 40 hours per week. Some evening and weekend availability necessary. Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Must pass required background pre-employment screening.
