Denison University: Theatre Location Department of Theatre Open Date Sep 30, 2024 Description Devisor/Playwright in Residence - Denison University Denison University's Department of Theatre invites applications for the 2025 Jonathan R. Reynolds Playwright in Residence (https://denison.edu/academics/theatre/playwright-in-residence-program) for a theatre-maker who will work with undergraduates to devise and create a new dynamic iteration of HERE US in the Spring Semester, 2025. HERE US has been an annual production of the Department of Theatre since 2020, serving as a student-led multi-disciplinary performance platform for BIPOC artists, consisting of individual and group spoken word, poetry, storytelling, song, dance, video, and other art forms. The successful candidate will: * spend one semester in residence (mid-January through mid-May 2025); * lead a devising/creation process for HERE US throughout the semester, culminating in a run of performances, with directorial responsibility during the production rehearsal period; and, * teach one undergraduate course in playwriting, devising, or other area of expertise. Denison is an increasingly diverse, highly selective, residential liberal arts college enrolling approximately 2,300 students from across the nation and around the world. The college is located in the village of Granville, 30 minutes from Columbus, Ohio, which hosts a wide range of cultural and artistic opportunities. Compensation for this visiting position is highly competitive. Qualifications We're seeking a person who is: * skilled in leading collaborative theatre-making projects; * excited to work with undergraduate students, integrating their ideas and short texts into finished performance pieces; * able to work flexibly with student performers with a range of availability for rehearsal; * able to work effectively with motivated student performers who have a range of skills and abilities, including some with little or no performance experience (a hallmark of the program is full participation of all interested students, without auditions); * experienced in one or more non-Eurocentric or non-Western theatre-making traditions; and, * experienced working with students from multiply diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and heritages. Preferred qualifications include: * college/university-level teaching experience; * college/university-level experience directing theatre; and * a distinguished record of theatre creation (as a devisor and/or playwright) in academic or professional settings.
