Product Development Chemist

As a Product Development Chemist, you will help develop new products and technologies in the area of Substrate Protection technologies across multiple business segments at PPG's Coatings Innovation Center located in Pittsburgh, PA.

The core job responsibility for the product development chemist will be to help implement projects in the Substrate Protection segment by conducting hands-on experimental work related to the formulation optimization, product processing, and testing of new technologies. The chemist will interpret experimental results and contribute to and design your own experiments. It will be essential to maintain results with the project team through written and verbal summaries promptly. Finally, you will work safely in the lab, with strict adherence to all safety processes.

You will work on-site in this position at our Alison Park, PA Facility and report to the Supervisor, S&T Product Development, Auto/IC SPS Product Development, Americas

Responsibilities:

• Desire to be hands-on in the lab and engaged in driving innovation.
• Observation of experimental details and external factors.
• Conduct laboratory activities supporting coating formulation, application, processing, and testing.
• Participate in project meetings and plan for project execution.
• Communicate results with clear reporting, develop corrective procedures, validate and distribute other technical information (in charts, tables, and reports) to technical and management.
• Maintain a safe, organized laboratory in compliance with all established PPG R&D policies.

Qualifications:

• BS in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Coatings Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field required.
• 1+ years of industrial R&D experience preferred.
• Previous experience in coating application, coating formulation, and troubleshooting preferred.
