The Economics Department of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications in any area of economics for three tenure-track positions at the assistant-professor level, with appointment beginning July 1, 2025. The successful candidate will demonstrate the capacity for high-quality research and teaching. Duties will include research, undergraduate/graduate teaching, mentoring, and service. One of these three tenure-track positions is identified as the Ishna Hall Fellow and is designated for an economist whose teaching responsibilities will include developing one or more undergraduate courses that will appeal to students in the Shuford Program in Entrepreneurship (shuford.unc.edu), which is housed in the Economics Department. We will consider applicants completing their graduate degrees as well as those with experience in academic and other research settings. To be hired as an Assistant Professor, a completed Ph.D. in Economics or a related field is required by July 1, 2025. An initial appointment of Instructor will be applied to a successful candidate who expects to complete the Ph.D. by July 1, 2026. Review of applications will begin November 1, 2024. Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The primary purpose of the Department of Economics is to provide excellent education, research, and service in the field. This goal breaks down into four important components: 1) to teach economics to undergraduates in a manner that will introduce them vigorously to its broad scope; 2) to offer scientific and professional training to graduate students to prepare them for teaching and research careers in the fields of microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and applied microeconomics (labor, health, education, and development) and industrial organization; 3) to carry out cutting-edge research in these areas to be published in professional journals; 4) to provide consulting and administrative support services to the department and the economics profession as well as to the university, local community, state, and nation.
Position Summary
