Winston-Salem State University is located in the Piedmont Triad city of Winston-Salem and is located within a short drive to Charlotte and Raleigh. Winston-Salem State University seeks serious applicants for the
Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources. The Chief Human Resources Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources (
CHRO/
AVCHR) reports to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration and serves as one of the senior-level administrative positions constituting the Chancellor's Cabinet. The successful candidate will collaborate with the university's senior leadership team, to develop strategies related to human capital management and leadership development. The
CHRO/
AVCHR will ensure alignment between the institution's strategic plan and human resource practices, through the strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of university HR programs, including recruitment, compensation/position management, employee relations, affirmative action, benefits, workers' compensation, professional development and training, performance management, HR information systems, staff communications, new employee orientation, and recognition programs. The
CHRO/
AVC of HR will create talent acquisition strategies to build strong pipelines for future hiring needs and help frame career development plans. While the Office of the Provost has sole responsibility for the appointment, promotion, and tenure of faculty, all other
EHRA human resources functions reside within the Division of Human Resources. The
CHRO/
AVC of HR must translate institutional priorities into a vision for human resource programs that are responsive to the University's needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
A Master's degree in human resources management, business administration, law, or a similar/equivalent program from a regionally accredited college or university.
Experience
Five (5) years of progressively responsible managerial and supervisory experience and/or a combination of education and experience.
Must have some experience in a public college, university, or a similar setting.
Other Demonstrated Competencies and Expertise
- Demonstrated leadership ability that includes creating a positive and productive workplace.
- Demonstrated record in implementing solutions to complex employee issues.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous process improvement.
- Strong budgeting and financial management skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of all programs and services encompassing employment related to federal and state regulations.
- Demonstrated strong communication, interpersonal, team building, and leadership skills to enhance human resources programs and policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three or more years' experience in the University of North Carolina (UNC) system at the institutional level.
- Demonstrated experience establishing unit metrics and implementing strategic goals.
SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Credential.
