Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to operate, monitor and provide maintenance to the boilers and auxiliary equipment in the steam plant. This is a shift Lead Operator position at the journey level with opportunities to grow.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
Facilities Management exists for the purpose of designing, construction, maintaining and operating the facilities necessary to house and support the university's academic and service programs.

Competency Knowledge - Technical
Describe the specific job duties related to this competency
Duties include starting and shutting down boilers, monitoring operational readings and making adjustments as needed. Ability to perform water tests and add chemicals as necessary. Perform routine maintenance to boilers. All training will be done under supervision of shift supervisor or plant supervisor.

Ability to perform routine and non-routine tasks and assignments through the application of a variety of processes and procedures involving operations and maintenance or repair of utility plant equipment and/or less complex systems.
Considerable knowledge in the operation, maintenance, methods, procedures and techniques of applicable plant equipment and safety requirements specific to the area of assignment.
Ability to monitor, record, sample and test equipment related to utility plant operations. Ability to perform analysis of equipment and systems, and identifies areas of concern.
Monitor operations of boilers in the boiler plant. Conduct routine inspections of gauges and systems, valves, pumps, fans. Make adjustments as needed for proper operations.
Ability to be punctual and maintain a good attendance record. Self motivated and able to work along on shift.
Position is responsible for leading and guiding the Boiler Operators assigned to that shift, monitor boiler data, make scheduled rounds to check boilers, document levels and readings in a log. Train new employees and coach current employees.

Serve as the backup Plant supervisor as needed.

" Employee must work "on call" during the approved appointed scheduled dates and times when requested. This also includes on callback work if needed. "

Describe the specific job duties related to this competency
Ability to perform basic operations and routine preventative maintenance of applicable machines, equipment and tools under the supervison of a higher level operator or supervisor.
Ability to monitor equipment through various software and automated systems to ensure proper and efficient operations. Ability to determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed; ability to make necessary adjustments using appropriate systems.
Ability to complete preventative and corrective maintenance repairs to boilers and ancillary equipments such as pumps, valves, sensors, gauges, and fans.
Ability to direct, plan, supervise and manage a complex unit involving multiple operations and projects. Monitors budget. Develops and implement work schedules. Thorough knowledge of and the ability to analyze and develop processes, policies, and procedures related to facility

Must be able to operate computer to process work orders, approve time sheets, and use Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.). Must check email daily. Read and record information in the log book daily.
