We are actively looking for a Coastal Engineer/Scientist to join our Costa Mesa office. As part of the Coastal Group, the Coastal Engineer/Scientist plans and designs for wetland restoration, beach nourishment, and living shorelines and conducts coastal resilience and flood vulnerability studies.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Prepares engineering design by collecting and studying reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, wave data, oceanographic conditions data, etc.
  • Creates feasibility studies by analyzing engineering design, performing numerical modeling studies, conducting coastal hazard assessment studies, and assembling data
  • Develops construction specifications, plans, and schedules to produce engineering documents
  • Successfully support ongoing Coastal / Water practice through contacts and business development efforts working with EPA, Army Corps of Engineers, NOAA, Local Environmental agencies, as well as private sector clients
  • Implementing scientific and regulatory tasks for projects to ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and policies, including those of the State of California and the federal government
  • Conduct field work including installation and retrieval of devices measuring tides, currents, water quality, and waves

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Coastal/Ocean Engineering
  • 3 to 5 years of experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in California or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 24 months of hire
  • Software
    • Coastal modeling software; preferred
    • Matlab
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Availability and willingness to travel, if needed (not anticipated frequently)
  • All new hires will be required to complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Base salary range:

$114,500 to $125,000 based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting the required qualifications in the job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California markets.

Physical requirements:

Majority of work is office-based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
