Overview

Function as an independent nurse clinician in coordinating ante partum fetal testing for high risk patients to include the performance, interpretation, and reporting of test results, assessment of patient status, educational needs, and follow up care. Provides education for staff and community and assists with research programs.



Responsibilities

Central point of contact/coordinator for all high risk new, consult, and transfer of care obstetrical patients.

Reviews patient records for new, consult, and transfer of care patients.

Contacts patients to obtain a medical and obstetrical history prior to their initial visit.

Obtains outside records from referring provider and/or specialists when appropriate.

Reports pertinent information to the provider primarily via written summery and clinical notes.

Assists with the Triage line.

Recognizes medical situations specific to Maternal Fetal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Returns Patient and Physician phone calls in a timely manner.

Recognize normal versus abnormal results; prints an accurate, readable report of the test; contact patient or physician when necessary.

Assess health education needs of patient.

Assist in clinic and Fetal Diagnostic Unit when coverage is needed.

Maintain clinical competency in areas of responsibility to ensure quality patient care which includes validation of skill level by passing both verbal and written tests administered by Nursing Manager.

Promote the philosophy, goals and objectives of the School and the Department by becoming familiar with and complying with policies and procedures.

Contribute to the well-being of patients by serving as a positive role model and demonstrating a professional, caring attitude, and behavior towards co-workers, patients, and guests.

Attendance, as assigned, is essential to meeting required performance duties.

Complete other miscellaneous duties as assigned.



Qualifications

Graduation from NLN Accredited School of Nursing with RN required, BSN preferred.

Minimum one year experience with high risk obstetric patients and minimum one year experience in fetal monitoring is preferred. Must have a valid Virginia license as a Professional Registered Nurse.
