Overview
The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining critical data infrastructure, including data warehouse solutions, ETL processes, and data governance practices. This role involves optimizing and managing data pipelines to ensure scalability, efficiency, and adherence to CNB's data governance and security standards. As a subject matter expert (SME) in data engineering, the position contributes to the modernization of data warehouse operations and the implementation of data quality initiatives. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, including data analysts, data governance, and other stakeholders, to ensure data solutions align with organizational needs and strategic objectives. Additionally, the Data Engineer oversees data processing workflows, resolves complex data issues, and manages data-related projects in both on-prem and Azure hybrid ecosystems. Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of data warehouse solutions that drive advanced reporting and analytics. Ensure data architectures meet the evolving needs of the organization, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Spearhead the creation, implementation, and optimization of ETL processes to efficiently extract, transform, and load data from various sources into centralized data repositories, leveraging both on-premises and cloud (Azure) environments.
- Drive the modernization of data warehouse operations by adopting emerging technologies and industry best practices. Independently lead the integration of new tools and systems to enhance data processing, storage, and access capabilities.
- Take ownership of data quality initiatives by designing, implementing, and managing processes that ensure data integrity, accuracy, and reliability. Proactively monitor and resolve data issues, refining workflows to maintain high-quality data assets.
- Establish systems for continuous monitoring and quality assurance of data pipelines, ensuring production data is consistently accurate, reliable, and accessible for key business operations and stakeholders.
- Evaluate and manage the end-to-end lifecycle of data assets, ensuring they are effectively maintained, secured, and aligned with broader enterprise data management strategies.
- Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and privacy regulations, proactively leading efforts to mitigate risks and ensure that data processing adheres to organizational standards and legal requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to data infrastructure and analytics capabilities, independently identifying opportunities to optimize processes, reduce costs, and enhance overall business growth.
- Provide expert-level data analysis and troubleshooting to resolve complex issues with data workflows, ensuring data quality, and supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization.
- Lead the implementation of data management processes to ensure compliance with security and privacy policies, addressing any issues that arise and maintaining a strong data governance framework.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage dependencies, ensuring that data assets align with business objectives and are utilized securely and effectively to meet organizational goals.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in data engineering, offering strategic direction on optimizing data workflows for both performance and cost-efficiency. Contribute to the development and refinement of enterprise-wide data strategies and policies.
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in Data Management operations or teams, with a focus on ETL processes, Data Warehouse and Data Mart concepts and implementation.
- 2-4 years of experience with corporate data governance practices, including data stewardship, compliance, and ensuring data quality standards.
- 2-4 years of experience in strategic planning and designing initiatives to optimize data management processes and systems.
- 2-4 years of experience in the Data Management and Information Management spaces, with comprehensive knowledge of data integration, data quality, and governance practices.
- 2-4 years of experience with data requirements in the Finance sector, including familiarity with relevant regulations and industry best practices.
- Demonstrated problem-solving experience with complex data movement, integration, and storage challenges across both on-premises and cloud environments.
- Expertise in programming languages such as C/C++, R (e.g., as implemented in R), Python, MATLAB, and Java, along with proficiency in ETL processes and database management fundamentals.
- Experience in supporting strategic initiatives and projects, with a track record of successfully implementing strategies that align with both business goals and data management objectives.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills in managing complex data systems, processes, and workflows, with the ability to identify and resolve data-related challenges effectively.
- Ability to recognize and address structural issues within the organization, including functional interdependencies and cross-silo redundancies, driving efficiency and process improvement.
- Proven ability to collaborate with senior management in developing business strategies, focusing on value creation and supporting data-driven decision-making in a corporate environment.
- Broad enterprise-wide understanding of business operations, strategy, processes, capabilities, and technologies, as well as knowledge of data governance and enabling technologies.
- Ability to act as a liaison between business stakeholders and IT teams, translating business strategy and data constraints to ensure alignment with IT capabilities and support for business goals.
- Proven experience in Data Management planning, organization, and development, with a demonstrated ability to create and implement comprehensive data management strategies.
- In-depth knowledge of DAMA DMBOK (Data Management Body of Knowledge) and various disciplines within Data Management, including data governance, data quality, and information lifecycle management.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to synthesize and correlate disconnected documentation, clearly articulating its relevance to high-priority business issues.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (e.g., data analysts, business intelligence teams, IT operations) and provide technical guidance to ensure alignment of data management initiatives with organizational goals.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
