Location: Gene Pumping Plant Parker Dam, CA 92267

Duration: 6+ Months

Shift hours: M-F8:00-5:00

Pay Rate: $33.00-$37.00/Hour

Job Description:

Performs and/or assists in either light/medium or heavy equipment maintenance and repair including:

  • Performs and/or assists in predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance on a variety of fleet equipment ranging from automobiles to light/medium or heavy and specialty equipment that operate under normal and extreme conditions, and are necessary to support all of Metropolitan's ongoing operations and maintenance functions.
  • Performs and/or assists in routine predictive, preventive, and corrective fleet maintenance including replacing consumable parts and items such as belts, filters, batteries, tires, brakes, exhaust and electrical components, chemicals/fluids, and lubricants. Both preventive and corrective repairs include fuel systems, chassis/strut and shock absorbing equipment; wheels and bearings; brakes, including hydraulic/pneumatic systems, brake systems; power trains; and complex and varied electrical/charging systems. Support safe and effective operation of vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs and/or assists to diagnose and troubleshoot a variety of automotive light/medium or heavy fleet equipment problems and complete appropriate corrective action to eliminate malfunctions and ensure effective vehicle use to minimize vehicle down time.
  • Performs and/or assists in the completion of PM and CM work on automotive light/medium or heavy equipment with varied power and drive train systems, hydraulic systems, fuel management systems, and auxiliary components including manual and computerized electronic controls and safety devices to provide equipment reliability.
  • Performs and/or assists with mechanical and computerized PMs and CMs on mobile HVAC systems.
  • Performs and/or assist with predictive, preventive, and corrective fleet maintenance on emergency generation equipment including large-scale diesel and propane powered generators to ensure uninterrupted reliability of communications, treatment and conveyance systems (core operations).
  • Performs and/or assist with the completion of vehicle emission and regulatory inspections and testing for all vehicles under State, Federal and local regulatory control, including air quality inspections/tests for standard fleet vehicles and emissions and may conduct opacity inspections for diesel equipment.
  • Performs and/or assist with diagnostic testing and troubleshooting using computerized electronic equipment to effectively read, interpret and record data from a wide range of components to assimilate and take the appropriate corrective or follow-up steps.
  • Performs and/or assist with rebuilding automotive light/medium or heavy equipment components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, final drives and air brake systems. Will be required to repair and maintain fuel management systems, electrical systems, hydraulic braking systems and chassis components.
  • Performs and/or assist with shop and road service calls for District vehicle emergencies and may perform basic repairs.
  • Assist with advanced repairs to networked components, including networked systems such as supplemental inflatable restraints (airbags), antilock brake systems, control area networks (CAN) to ensure safety and operational systems function as designed.


Required Skills and Abilities to:

  • Perform and/or assist in diagnosing malfunctions through the utilization of basic electronic and computerized diagnostic equipment of varied types and manufacturers.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturer schematics and vendor diagrams, manuals and specifications to complete installation and repair of automotive light/medium or heavy equipment related parts and systems.
  • Use and maintain automotive tools and equipment utilized in automotive light/medium or heavy equipment maintenance, and diagnose and repair malfunctions of fleet equipment and systems (visually and/or aurally), including engine and drive systems, fuel, electrical, suspension, chassis and safety appliances, refrigerant recovery and recycling requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency (SCAQMD).



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:

  • Valid Driver's license from state of residency equivalent to a California Class A, B, and/or C with appropriate commercial license endorsements
  • Certification from the South Coast Air Quality Management District in freon installation, automotive air conditioning and emissions (including CFC 12, Refrigerant recycling and service procedures)
  • Emissions testing certification from the State of California
  • ASE certification
