Job Title: Registered Nurse(Hybrid)

Location: Richmond, VA 23219

Pay Rate: $75.00/hr. without benefits

Duration: 26+ months

Work Hours : 8:00am to 5:00pm

Job Description:

  • Assist VDH clinical leadership as it transitions from paper-based documentation to a modern EHR.
  • Serves as an integral member of an interprofessional project team working alongside information technology staff, medical providers, nurses, ancillary and programmatic staff facilitating the successful transition of paper-based documentation to an EHR.
  • Utilizes nursing theory and approaches in providing consultation on EHR clinical workflows and documentation supporting foundational public health services to include: Title X Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Maternity, HIV, Ryan White - AIDS Drug Assistant Program (ADAP), Pre-Exposure and Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP/PEP), Tuberculosis Disease and Infection (TB) services, Maternal Child Home visiting, preventive screening services, Immunization, Opioid Education & Counseling, Child Health, Early Childhood Intervention, Adult Health Management, Communicable Disease, Resource Mothers, Medicaid Long Term Services and Support Screening, Newcomer Health services and School K-12 & Sports Physicals.
  • Assists the project team to write, research and edit key documents (e.g., reports, strategic work plans, proposals, and presentations) for quality and alignment of project goals and objectives.
  • Coordinates with key project staff, VDH stakeholders and Pharmacy consultant to develop strategies and processes creating efficient Central Pharmacy workflows for vaccine dispensing with multiple funding streams, medications and bulk orders to Local Health Departments. Contributes to the development of strategies supporting compliance and documentation of the 340B discount medication purchasing program as it applies to foundational public health services.
  • Assists with facilitation of EHR related workgroups to manage and obtain organizational input/feedback throughout the EHR transition process.
  • Conducts research on best practices in clinical care informing EHR design and configuration. Shares findings with the Director of Nursing/CHS Medical Director. Must be able to summarize in verbal or written form complex decisions that require leadership's consideration.
  • Trains, creates and provides educational materials for the licensed clinical team on the basics of understanding of EHR terminology and concepts, workflows, and medical documentation.
  • Ensures and fosters communication and collaboration among all members of the project team to promote project success and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Active participant in all phases of product testing to identify problems and recommend solutions to promote ease of use and end user compliance.


Nursing & Clinical EHR Consultant Requirements:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Nursing, with a Master's Degree in a Nursing related field, preferred.
  • Relevant experience in implementing healthcare software/documentation solutions.
  • Must hold a current Registered Nurse License to practice in Virginia.
  • Advanced computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) and familiarity with creating and/or using charts, spreadsheets and databases, as well as medical office software.
  • Ability to manage a combination of onsite work in Richmond, Virginia as well remote consulting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and adjust activities appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proactive and able to work independently and solve problems as needed.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with state or local public health departments.
  • Experience with public health programs.
