Position Highlights

The Sadayappan Lab is hiring a highly motivated candidate for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate I position in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. Dr. Sakthivel Sadayappan's NIH funded lab aims to delineate the role of myosin binding protein-C (MyBP- C) structure, regulation, and function in striated muscles of both cardiac and skeletal tissues.

The successful candidate will have excellent analytical and communication skills and an interest in using techniques focused on defining the impact of of MYBPC3 gene variants on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and developing gene therapy for treating distal arthrogryposis. The incumbent will possess the drive required to work independently, collaboratively, and publish findings.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead a
    research project in close collaboration with the PI and other lab members.
  • Innovate
    new areas of experimental inquiry.
  • Advance
    technical aspects of experimental approaches and mechanistic understanding
    of biological problems.
  • Mentor
    junior lab members and contribute to a productive scientific environment.
  • Maintain
    detailed records and disseminate research findings in meetings and as
    manuscripts in scientific journals.
  • Apply
    for independent funding and contribute to grant proposals submitted by the
    PI.
  • There
    may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD at the time of hire in
    a related field, such as physiology, biochemistry, molecular and cellular
    biology, mechanics, physiology, biomechanics, etc.
