In the last century, we have made remarkable progress in extending human longevity. Increased life expectancy, however, is not uniformly associated with an equal increase in the proportion of life in good health. For many populations, longer life results in many years in poor health, functional dependence, reduced quality of life, loss of productivity, and increased human and economic costs. As a result, "health span" has emerged as an urgent area of inquiry. RISE-THRIVE aims to supercharge a fully integrated approach to advancing a healthy life span. Institutional Statement on Diversity: Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. We value the contributions of each person and respect the profound ways their identity, culture, background, experience, status, abilities, and opinion enrich the university community. We commit ourselves to the pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, outreach, and diversity as inextricably linked goals.
