Job Profile Summary

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Perioperative Business Operations, and in collaboration with the Medical Director of Endoscopy, the Director of Endoscopy Services plans, organizes, implements, and oversees clinical activities and program development for multiple Endoscopy procedural locations across the Medical Center. This position oversees professional nursing practice to ensure quality patient care and outcomes, and establishes systems that ensure continuity of care across the Medical Center.

Responsible for the development of short and long-term planning and goal setting for assigned patient care unit and service line. Serves as a resource to affiliate hospitals for program needs and provides consultation services and program oversight. Partners with physician and administrative leadership on the growth and development of endoscopy services.

I. Major Responsibilities

1. Oversees patient care management and ensures that professional nursing is practiced in accordance with established standards of regulatory and nursing standards of practice at UMMH.

2. Ensures the delivery of quality services for customers. Investigates service expansion, recommends new programs, and oversees implementation as opportunities present themselves.

3. Provides administrative and financial accountability for planning, directing, staffing, coordinating, and controlling functions and activities of all phases of the procedural process.

4. Manages the overall operations of Endoscopy in accordance with hospital policies, standards of nursing practice, and governmental regulations, providing excellent care for all endoscopy procedural patients.

5. Plans, develops, and implements strategy for operational/marketing management and development to meet organizational performance plans within budgets and time frames.

Standard Management Level Responsibilities:

1. Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, terminations, and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other personnel problems within position responsibilities.

2. Develops and recommends the budgets for the areas managed. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met.

3. Coordinates the assignment of tasks and helps resolve technical and operational problems. Evaluates the impact of solutions to ensure goals are achieved.

4. Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over the staff for effective teamwork and motivation; and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.

5. Encourages and supports diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field.

2. Licensed to practice nursing in the State of Massachusetts.

3. Member of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA).

4. Professional certification in area of specialty (CGRN, NEA-BC, etc.). If not currently certified, obtains within 18 months of hire and maintains for entirety of tenure in position.

Preferred:

1. Master's degree in Nursing or related field.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

1. Minimum of 3 years of previous management experience.

2. Minimum of five years of progressive and directly relevant experience in hospital or healthcare environment.

3. Recent experience in area of specialty.

4. Demonstrated leadership ability, initiative, teamwork, and assertiveness.

5. Ability to manage effectively in complex environment of large health system with multiple constituencies and across multiple geographical locations and broad spans of control.

6. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and evaluate programs and to analyze fiscal data and develop departmental budgets.

7. Strong working knowledge of principles and practices of Procedural Services.

8. Excellent communication skills and proven track record of fostering teamwork.

9. Must be knowledgeable in LEAN techniques and utilize those principles in process improvement activities.
