Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Proposal Manager. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Chicago; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle; Washington DC; or Wheeling, WV) with consideration given for 100% remote US locations.

The Objective: As Senior Manager on the Pitch Team, you will play a pivotal role in the strategy, planning and execution of firm responses to client opportunities and the continued growth of the Pitch Team.

What will I do? The Senior Manager of the Pitch Team will provide leadership, sector knowledge and strategic initiative support. Working closely with other thought partners across Business Development, you will provide input on the long-term strategic planning for the function and development of the team. This includes creating greater sector alignment and tailoring of content, playing a leading role in technology automation and the management of workflow through standardized processes. In collaboration with the team's director and managers, you will develop and lead the execution of a first-in-class team training curriculum. And, finally, opportunity response coverage and leadership on high priority opportunities will be central to your daily work.

How will I spend my time? You will spend most of your time on these responsibilities:



Responsibilities

    Opportunity Response, Sector Knowledge & Market Intelligence
  • In close collaboration with members of the wider Business Development team, develop a deep understanding of firm strategy as well as sector and practice differentiators
  • Develop playbooks that contain best practice guidelines for the pitching process, including intelligence gathering, audience analysis, client/project need analysis, perception analysis and key message development
  • Provide senior strategic input and assist team specialists on the execution of high priority/key client opportunities
  • Assist in the review of content library material to ensure effective, compelling, and consistent messaging
  • Monitor opportunity data for emerging trends and key indicators for success
  • Work closely with Business Development teams to identify market trends, client needs, and competitor strategies to inform opportunities
  1. Team Management & Development
  • Review, analyze and improve team processes and collaboration dynamics, leveraging debriefs and regular feedback to inform improvements
  • Identify ways to optimize resource availability within the team, focusing on project intake and project management strategies
  • Assist on training curriculum for new team members and maintain a calendar of training "refreshers" both for Pitch & Proposal team members as well as sessions to be offered outside of the team
  • Actively provide rolling performance feedback across the team, offering specific and actionable ways to improve pain points
  • Line Management responsibility for Pitch & Proposal Managers


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or some other communications-related discipline preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Five to seven years of management experience and at least five years of proposal experience, preferably in professional services
  • Exemplary leadership, organization, and project management skills
  • Absolute trustworthiness, confidentiality, and discretion
  • Strong initiative and ability to mentor/coach junior team members
  • Superior writing skills, especially in the setting of pitch and proposal or marketing collateral context
  • Ability to coordinate multiple complex projects while remaining client-service focused, detail oriented and demonstrating superior judgment and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated exemplary professional communication skills across verbal and written mediums
  • Excellent computer/Internet skills, with exceptional proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and at least two years' experience in a law firm or other professional services environment preferred.
  • Strong tech experience, including with document management systems (e.g., Net Docs), project management platforms, content tools and AI a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is between:

  • California Major Markets* $124,000 - $175,000
  • New York City $139,000 - $175,000
  • National $113,000 - $144,000

* California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica. All other California locations fall within National range.

Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
