The salary range is $66,737-$80,034 annually. Application Window Open date: October 1, 2024 Most recent review date: Thursday, Dec 5, 2024 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Saturday, Mar 1, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The School of Education at the University of California, Irvine is excited to announce a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar position focusing on reasoning, development, and AI within mathematics instructional technology design. The Postdoctoral scholar will have the opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team to conduct research that investigates the nature of children's higher order thinking in mathematics, the capacity for a generative AI chatbot to support children's mathematical higher order thinking, and best practices for effective design of an educational technology unit to improve proportional thinking and problem solving. This is a four-year IES funded project that builds on prior projects in which we have amassed a large collection of data on children's math learning and their higher order thinking experiences in language, which will be used to train the generative AI chatbot. Salary and rank within the Postdoctoral Scholar series is commensurate with experience. The appointment is for two years, with possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funding. The position will start in October/November 2024. Responsibilities: Responsibilities include collaborating with faculty PI and co-PIs on the project; assisting with project management, including communication with the school partners; collaborating on study design, implementation and analysis; publishing and presenting findings; consulting with and mentoring a team of graduate and undergraduate students. Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Psychology, Education, or a related field; broad expertise in research and evaluation of educational interventions; particular expertise on topics related to reasoning, cognitive development, mathematics education; broad knowledge of quantitative research design, including experiments and power analysis; advanced expertise in academic writing and editing for peer-reviewed scholarly articles; successful experience in writing human subjects protocols; demonstrated ability to work well with others, including both receiving direction and providing direction; and expertise in leading research initiatives and teams.
