Position Summary:
The primary function of the Spiritual Care Chaplain Call (PRN) position is to help maintain 24-hour availability of pastoral care to emergent clinical situations. This PRN Chaplain position will normally function in an on-call capacity when staff chaplains are not immediately available. The PRN chaplain provides pastoral / spiritual care to patients, families and staff according to ethical standards of practice for chaplains and counselors. Will participate in on-call rotation with other chaplains. Works collaboratively and as a liaison between pastoral care department and other Carle and non-Carle businesses, organizations, and personnel.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Preference to Master of Divinity or Masters related field. Also acceptable: B.A./B.S. degree or equivalent, preferably in theological and/or psychosocial fields plus 3 years of work experience in pastoral ministry. Strong expectation that candidates will have completed one unit of accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), or equivalent educational experience, or minimally a pastoral development course with references. CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS All PRN chaplains must maintain good standing with a faith group with an endorsement document on file from faith group within 90 days of first day of employment. If at any time during employment, a chaplain withdraws from a faith group association or a faith group withdraws endorsement from a chaplain, that chaplain must demonstrate that a process is in place for endorsement by another faith group within one (1) year. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS preferrederably more than 3 years of experience in ministry and/or at least 1 unit of CPE. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Must possess the following skills: organization, planning, spiritual assessment, goal setting, team and independent working skills. Knowledge of personality and faith development theories needed for spiritual assessments. Ability to adapt to the unpredictability of trauma or crisis situations. Conducts ethical chaplaincy practice according to the "Common Code of Ethics for Chaplains, Pastoral Counselors, Pastoral Educators and Students".
Essential Functions:
- Provide direct Spiritual Care to patients, staff and families.
- Clarifies value issues with patients, families and staff to support ethical practices/decisions.
- Assist in coordination of Spiritual Care for hospital.
