Position Detail:

We are looking for an experienced Station Mechanic to join our Operations team for this position in Falls Village, CT.

The Station Mechanic reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for performing mechanical work associated with constructing, installing, maintaining, repairing, and overhaul of all equipment at all FirstLight's Falls Village, CT location and the related waterways, appurtenances, structures, and other facilities as assigned.

Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:



  • Operate, monitor, construct, install, maintain, adjust, and repair all types of equipment in the Falls Village Station as assigned;
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance including welding tasks for the overhaul and maintenance of equipment;
  • Perform operational activities required for startup, shut down, and normal operation of plant equipment;
  • Complete and maintain logbook entries, maintenance work orders, inspection reports, and environmental records;
  • Complete Lockout/Tagout of equipment as required to safely maintain equipment;
  • Utilize hand and power tools, lathes, grinders, drill presses, shapers and measuring instruments;
  • Read, interpret and utilize mechanical and construction drawings to complete assignments and troubleshoot systems;
  • Rig and move large equipment/components with minimum supervision;
  • Maintain a safety focus by monitoring activities with an emphasis on adherence to all safety/environmental regulations and policies;
  • Regularly communicate with supervisor to provide timely updates regarding work and projects;
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned;
  • Comply with all FirstLight policies and procedures.


Job Qualifications / Skills


  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent; related trade school or training, a plus;
  • 5+years' experience in a power plant, chemical, gas, or similar facility;
  • Machine shop skills such as welding, cutting, brazing, and heavy rigging is strongly preferred;
  • Strong experience with hand and power tools, required;
  • Experience reading and interpreting mechanical and construction drawings;
  • Proven ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment with a strong degree of accuracy;
  • Experience with confined space entry, preferred;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail;
  • Intermediate computer skills;
  • Must have a valid driver's license;
  • Must be able to participate in the 24/7 on-call rotation schedule with the ability to respond to plant emergencies within 1 hour of call;
  • Availability for overtime, weekend and holiday work, required.

Physical Requirements



  • Must be physically able to do strenuous work for extended periods of time at elevated and subterranean locations in a variety of adverse indoor and outdoor work conditions and be capable of frequently standing, walking, balancing, sitting, climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, stacks, etc.), stooping, squatting, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, lifting (min. 50lbs);
  • Must be able to work near water including the river, dam, and power canal areas;
  • Must be able to hear audible alarms to respond to associated equipment malfunctions;
  • Able to read and interpret complex written manual and digital material;
  • Capable of performing repetitive motions;
  • Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret instruments, gauges, and manuals and the like;
  • Must be physically capable of entering and working in confined spaces such as crawl spaces, shafts, small, enclosed areas, pipes and the like;
  • Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses etc.
