Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Brody Pathway to Health Careers Program provides academic enrichment and healthcare exposure to middle and high school students to increase their interest in careers in rural primary care medicine. Brody Pathway to Health Careers Program meets learners where they are, across the spectrum of academic accomplishment. Learners will rise to a career in healthcare and research while increasing leadership skills and professionalism. The program serves students in Eastern North Carolina. Students participate in exciting activities in Science, Technology, Education, and Math (
STEM) with a healthcare focus through the Brody Pathway to Health Careers Pre-College Program's After School, Saturday Academy and Summer Program. |
Job Duties |
Brody School of Medicine's Department of Academic Affairs' Brody Pathway to Health Careers Program is looking to recruit a Science Teacher to work to work with program participants for the Saturday Academy and Summer Program.
This is a Part-Time position that works from October through April for the Saturday Program and in June and/or July for the Summer Program.
Duties include:
* Provide/deliver high quality, student-centered, hands-on, and inquiry-based instruction for students in the Saturday Academy Program (select Saturdays Oct-April) and Summer Program (one week June or July)
* Develop lesson plans for classes assigned in the Saturday Academy and Summer Program
* Participate in the assessment of learning outcomes and evaluation of the Brody Pathway to Health Careers Program as well as provide feedback on activities/experiences and participants
* Participate in any professional development sessions offered by the Brody Pathway to Health Careers Program
* Maintain, complete and submit Brody Pathway to Health Careers Program reports, surveys, grades, time sheets, attendance and activity records, online data, and any additional paperwork as designated by the Program Administration
* Organizes resource material and sets up laboratory activities
* Assists with program opening and closing activities/ceremonies
* Accompanies participants on tours, field trips, conferences, leadership retreats or other activities, as necessary
Contingent on availability of funding. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
Bachelor's degree plus a valid NC teaching license with an endorsement for Science (Middle School/Junior High) or related field.
Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation |
Qualified candidates must hold a valid teaching license with an endorsement for Science (Middle school/Junior High) or related field. |
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
Excellent oral and written communication skills; and evidence of skill working with at risk student populations. |
