OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company (Merrick) is seeking an experienced Market Sector Leader (MSL)/ Director with a background in U.S. laboratory projects, environments, and programs to lead growth in our life sciences and laboratory markets. The MSL-Director will bring their experience in significant life sciences and laboratory architectural and engineering design projects, network, and ability to develop business to one of the premier laboratory design, commissioning, and consulting firms in the world. The MSL-Director will have authority and responsibility for continuing to build a portfolio of laboratory projects, with the ability to support strategy and technical execution of major projects.

Typical annual pay range for this position is $175,000.00 - $200,000.00. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all U.S. life sciences and laboratory design projects, reporting to the Vice President of Life Sciences Facilities.
  • Develop strategies and tactics for life sciences and laboratory design market expansion, working closely with the life sciences leadership team to integrate and execute strategies.
  • Leverage network of client and partners to obtain client meetings and grow the life sciences and laboratory design portfolio.
  • Lead and/or support business development meetings, conferences, client meetings, and other events in the U.S.
  • Coordinate with the business development personnel to track progress of market growth strategies and tactics.
  • Contribute to annual planning and budgeting activities with the life sciences Sr. VP and Business Unit Leader.
  • Serve as a key account manager, where needed, at the discretion of the Sr. VP and Business Unit Leader.
  • Work closely with the Director of Projects, discipline, and technical leads, to transition opportunities into execution strategies, including project management schemes, resourcing, and contract negotiations.
  • Participate with the Sr. VP and Business Unit Leader in presenting higher-risk projects to executive leadership.
  • Attend and present at select industry events and conferences; participates in thought-leadership activities that include presentations, publications, webinars, etc.).
  • Utilize proficiency and professionalism to support development and delivery of superb quality project and business development documents, tools, and presentations.
  • Implement quality control measures in accordance with Merrick and Client requirements to draft and manage consistency in documents and presentations.
  • Become familiar and comply with Merrick's project management systems, procedures and reporting protocols, and report regularly to Merrick senior management on project performance.
  • Support a team of Discipline Leads, Program Managers, and Project Managers to ensure technical and project deliverables are accurate, proofed, consistent, and professional.
  • Support and integrate Merrick and Client branding efforts across a wide spectrum of products and deliverables.
  • Integrate with and support Discipline Leads on the development and composition of proposals for laboratory design, commissioning, and consulting opportunities.
  • Communicate and coordinate with all project stakeholders as required for successful project execution.
  • Be able to obtain low-level security clearance for work with the US Federal Government.
  • Implement excellent multi-tasking skills to support product delivery from a wide team of Project Managers and Technical Leads.
  • Apply analytical skills to project approaches, standards, and solutions, throughout project lifecycle.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience in the life sciences and laboratory design and consulting market(s).
  • Demonstrated market leadership in the life sciences and laboratory domains with respect to developing strategy for market penetration and expansion, managing a diverse portfolio of laboratory facilities projects, strategic planning, proposal development, and client account management.
  • Proficiency with PC-based software including expert-level experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, and PDF creation applications.
  • Experience in technical editing and proposal writing in a life sciences project environment.
  • Good working knowledge of the biocontainment, biosafety and biosecurity field, emerging technologies, government/academic/industrial programs.
  • Team player with a positive attitude who possesses excellent organizational, strategic, communication, and client management skills; and the ability to work with project managers, discipline leads, project teams, and business development personnel.
  • Must be reliable, detail oriented, able to follow established formats and procedures, and perform well under deadlines while working with multiple levels of internal staff and teaming partners, coordinating multiple projects and multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to do moderate travel, including internationally, for project work and business development.
  • Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick's insurance carrier.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience with multiple delivery and execution methodologies, including design-bid-build, design-build, integrated project delivery.
  • Working knowledge and/or experience with non-life sciences laboratories (e.g., nuclear, food & personal care, technology).
