Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
This position is an entry-level analyst in the Institutional Research and Decision Support ( IRDS) office. The analyst is responsible for validating, collecting, and analyzing data from a variety of sources. This position will respond to internal and external requests for data. External data requests include mandated reporting related to federal/ state/accreditation requirements. Internal data requests include enrollment trends, student demographic profiles, and student outcomes.

The IRDS office is an administrative department, and it serves the information needs of university leadership by supporting decision making through data.
Essential Functions


  • Data Collection & Analysis: Utilize SQL or similar programming languages to write queries that create datasets for institutional data analysis. Identify, collect, validate, and analyze both institutional and external data, such as data related to enrollment, admissions, retention, and student outcomes.

  • Data Validation & Integrity: Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and consistency of data across various datasets and sources. Implement rigorous validation processes to identify and correct discrepancies, maintain data quality standards, and ensure reliable data for analysis and reporting.

  • Decision-Making Support: Create insightful reports to aid university leaders in data-driven decision-making.

  • Compliance/Required Reporting: Prepare and submit annual reports to fulfill state, federal, and accreditation requirements (e.g., WASC, IPEDS, AICCU). Respond to requests from other external agencies, such as the Common Data Set and U.S. News & World Report.

  • Data Visualization & Dashboard Creation: Use PowerBI or similar tools to develop data visualizations and dashboards that present university demographics, performance metrics, benchmarks, student outcomes, and other information that supports academic program reviews.

  • Survey Administration: Participate in the administration of internal surveys using Qualtrics, including the analysis and reporting of survey data.

  • Web Content Management: Assist in creating and maintaining content on Institutional Research and Decision Support (IRDS) web pages.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in social science or a research related field.
  • One (1) year of professional experience working with data.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience in an institutional research office or with data reporting in a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with SQL or similar query/programming language.
  • Experience with Qualtrics or similar survey tool.
  • Technical proficiency with data testing and data management.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Encompass traits of good judgment, confidentiality, and discretion in communicating with colleagues and constituents.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel

Hiring Range $66,560.00/yr to $70,000.00/yr. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
