Position Summary:

While working under the direction of the Mailing Supervisor, the right individual will understand mailing requirements and its supporting paperwork, to include the operation of the following equipment. Camera matching inserters by Bluecrest and Bell & Howell will be the focus for this position with secondary knowledge of Ink jets and tabbers. The Inserter Operator continues to learn upon assignment to set-up and operate the lines of associated equipment to become a more skillful and versatile operator.

Work Arrangement: This position is able to work onsite, at our Lansing Headquarters.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Compensation & Benefits



  • This position starts at $19.00+/hour, dependent on experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Acquire the job folder and review it for the specifications or special instructions that may impact the operation or setting up of the equipment.
  • Essential skills needed, experience working on inserters and ink jet equipment with postal paperwork knowledge.
  • Beneficial to the position will be working knowledge of Blue Crest inserters, Bell & Howell inserters and MCS Ink Jet Technology.
  • Follow routine procedures in the set up and operation of equipment.
  • Review the quality of the product continuously to meet the standard that is required.
  • Maintain records with quantities, quality, and any other required information.
  • Crosstrain and learn the lines of associate equipment.
  • Assist in the training of employees new to the department.
  • Report unusual conditions or circumstances to the supervisor or the person in charge.
  • Work on job assignments in other manufacturing areas as needed.
  • Comply with all OSHA safety requirements.
  • Records retention and logging time into software for job costing and time tracking.
  • Use of manual and battery powered pallet jack.
  • Performs preventative maintenance such as lubrication, replacement of small parts, cleaning and minor adjustments to rollers and other small moving parts.
  • Perform other tasks as requested.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:



    • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
    • 2-3 years of experience in printing or other manufacturing fields.
    • Reads instructions from job jacket and sets up or directs set-up of equipment based on instructions.
    • Evaluate and adjust work for quality assurance.
    • Ensure quality of finished products meet company and customer standards.
    • Reads Material Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Sees to proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
    • Communication skills


    Physical Demands and Work Environment:



    • May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period.
    • Comfortable performing repetitive tasks for long periods of time.
    • Requires ability to stand for extended periods, handle paper, reach forward, bend and lift boxes or cartons that can weigh up to 50 pounds.
    • Exposure to potentially hazardous conditions. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure, including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) [Safety Glasses, Gloves,]
    • Frequently moves equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds for transport between areas of buildings.
    • This position requires onsite presence at the employee's assigned location for all scheduled shifts.
