Compensation Grade: P99 (Research Affiliate I)Compensation Details: Minimum: $61,008.00 - Maximum: $61,008.00 AnnuallyDepartment (OPH) WADS - Wadsworth CenterJob Description: Responsibilities The Research Affiliate will further their post-doctoral expertise and build their research portfolio through mentored research projects using a wide range of molecular biology, microbial genetics, and microscopy experiments, to study cell division in Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio cholerae, and Escherichia coli. The Research Affiliate will apply their training to advance core laboratory projects, while developing an independent research program, under the direction of the Principal Investigator. The incumbent will analyze, present, and archive data arising from their own experiments. The incumbent will utilize molecular genetics (especially bacterial culture, cloning, DNA preparation, and library preparation for next-generation sequencing), protein biochemistry (including protein purification and immunoblotting), and bacterial cell biology (including live cell labeling for fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry) to dissect the growth plans of Staphylococcus aureus and other pathogenic bacteria. The incumbent will also gain experience in providing subject matter expertise through training junior staff in the laboratory (eg., incoming graduate students and undergraduate interns) and maintaining and operating key laboratory and shared equipment (e.g., fluorescence microscopes). Minimum Qualifications PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field. Preferred Qualifications 5 years of experience working in a molecular biology or microbiology research laboratory. Expertise in molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, gel electrophoresis, plasmid purification, DNA isolation, plasmid cloning), and/or genetic manipulation of bacteria, is strongly encouraged. Experience with microscopy, cell biology, next generation sequencing, statistics analysis, and image analysis. Conditions of Employment Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will not be available.
