Overview

TRC is currently seeking a Civil or Environmental Engineer with solid waste/landfill/waste-to-energy experience to join our Northern New England Engineering, Construction, and Remediation Team. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills both written and verbal, 2- 5 years of relevant solid waste/landfill experience, working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and an Engineer-in-Training Certification or Professional Engineering License is highly desired.

This position is required to provide operational, permitting, compliance, design, and construction services to a wide variety of solid waste clients. Our engineering staff provide engineering design and technical support on challenging solid waste projects and the successful candidate will apply their existing knowledge and develop new skills while working as part of a dynamic and fast paced team. The position focuses on a candidate developing skills to assist clients as they comply with various environmental regulations and address their permitting challenges by working with project teams to perform analyses and to develop and implement plans, designs, and specifications. A desire to work with internal business development professionals and senior managers to establish and grow a sustainable client base is required.

The position may work from TRC 's Portland or Augusta Maine offices.

The position provides opportunities for engineering design including detail preparation, land grading, leachate collection system sizing, stormwater calculations, landfill closure design, solar on landfill design and evaluation, report writing, permit application preparation, and construction quality control. Additional opportunities may include performance of solid waste facility compliance inspections, providing operational/technical support for operations and future planning, and providing PFAS treatment support. Projects include, but are not limited to, the design and permitting of landfills, transfer stations, waste-to-energy facilities, convenience centers, recycling facilities, anaerobic digestion, and composting operations.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities include engineering design, team support, and task management on a variety of waste resources engineering projects, with a particular focus on solid waste engineering topics including but not limited to, landfill design, landfill gas systems, landfill leachate systems, construction planning and oversite, landfill closure, landfill operations, landfill post closure design and care, transfer station design, WTE design, MRF design, and recycling centers.

  • Site planning, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, drainage design, grading plans.
  • Landfill design
  • Landfill permitting
  • Stormwater design
  • Leachate system design, management, and treatment
  • Landfill gas collection and control system design including active gas systems.
  • Management, blower/flare station, plant operations system troubleshooting and well field tuning, title V emissions reporting
  • Facility siting, design, and construction management for: landfills, transfer stations, convenience centers, waste-to-energy facilities, materials recovery facilities, anaerobic digestion, and composting facilities
  • Landfill capacity analysis
  • Facility / landfill financial assurance
  • Odor assessment and mitigation, tracer gas studies, ambient air monitoring
  • Solid waste facility operations
  • Construction management and quality assurance
  • Design of landfill based renewable energy systems including solar and wind energy, landfill gas-to-energy systems
  • Other waste to energy technologies including anaerobic digestion and biogas

Qualifications

  • EIT or PE preferred or ability to obtain in six months
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering from an accredited university.
  • 2-5 years of solid waste design experience
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is required
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent technical/computer skills required
  • Ability to work in a team environment and on multiple projects at the same time required
  • Valid driver's license required

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
