General Summary of Position

Medstar Health is looking for aPRN Rehabilitation Technicianto join our team!We are looking forsomeone skilled inestablishingand maintaining effective working relationships withpatients, the medical and professional staff, and the public.
The PRN Rehabilitation Technician will perform a variety of functions toassistthe professional staff in the department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Under direct supervision of an Occupational Therapist (OT), Physical Therapist (PT), or Speech Pathologist (SLP) aids patients with therapeutic exercises and/or activities. Upon successful completion of departmental competencies, may independently perform multiple functions that are not related to a patient's plan of care (e.g., transportation of patients, and various program service functions such as gym set up to prepare for patient treatment, supplies inventory, etc.). These functions are performedin accordance withall applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies,procedures,and standards.

Primary Duties:
Under direct supervision:aidspatients in practicing functional exercises and activities as directed by Occupational Therapists (OT's), Physical Therapists (PT's), and Speech Pathologists (SLP's);functional activities may includeexercises, gait/stair/transfer practice, utilizing pulleys, weights, tilt-table and other appropriate equipment; checks vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiratoryrate,and oxygen saturation levels during patient activities, as directed;directs patients in the care and useofcrutches, walkers, and other ambulatory devices, such as slings, braces, orthotics, etc.
Assists OT with Activities of Daily Living treatmentutilizingappropriate adaptiveequipment as directed.Assistsin the provision of bedside treatments;assistsOT/PT/SLP in positioning, handling, and stabilizing patients.Assists PT with patients receiving wound care treatment. This includes preparation and cleanup, applying dressings, and patient transfers in and out of whirlpoolTransports patients to and from the department of PM&R,assistsin the preparation of patients for transport and patient transfers; transports equipment needed to bedside as requested by OT/PT/SLP.
Organizes,maintainsand cleans treatment areas and equipment. Ensures all forms are stocked.Maintains an inventory of supplies and orders equipment according to par levels. Maintains all equipment and refrigerator logs.
Promotes and abides by all C2C standards.Assumes other duties and responsibilities that areappropriate tothe position and area. The above responsibilities are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this classification andarenot to be considered as all inclusive.


Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED.
Basic Life Support (BLS).
Basic knowledge of exercise programs, some exposure and experience dealing with a variety of patientspreferred.
Bachelor of Sciencedegree inmedicalscience or exercise sciencepreferred.
