Product Evaluation Technician

Job Summary:

Perform product evaluations and confirm that they are performed to client specifications. Ensure excellent customer service by providing timely completions of Certificates of Analysis and responses to customer communications and inquires.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Interact with product evaluation clients and ensure satisfaction with excellent customer service and meeting turnaround time
  2. Coordinate product orders and pickups from distribution centers
  3. Create Certificates of Analysis, collect and report critical data
  4. Complete data transfers while adhering to client specifications
  5. Apply aseptic techniques in daily workload
  6. Inventory and report expendable supplies/materials needed for testing requirements
  7. Provide routine preventive maintenance by daily cleaning, sanitizing, and trash disposal
  8. Independently pursue an assigned series of processes, procedures, or techniques in accordance with FSNS policies/procedures and customer requirements.
  9. Perform all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner. Maintain a neat, safe, and hygienic test kitchen as well as laboratory conditions to include equipment, supplies, quality assurance programs, and accurate records throughout all procedures
  10. Share information in an open and timely manner
  11. Conduct product evaluation following detailed specifications as needed for each customer
  12. Assisting with managing priorities and schedule such that individual goals as well as team goals are achieved with encouraged participation in the Food Safety Net Services Team
  13. Responsible for the safety of oneself and others working within their area
  14. Responsible for the completion of required training

Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Associate degree in Life Science or two years of laboratory experience preferred
  • Training in general laboratory practices preferred
  • One or more years' experience in a commercial food-testing laboratory preferred
  • Working knowledge of aseptic sampling technique, automated lab equipment, and acceptable methods and procedures
  • Broad knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of a food testing laboratory
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to travel as needed

Language Skills:

  • Clarity of speech, remaining calm and focused, being polite and make effective presentations to diverse groups.
  • Ability to edit work for spelling and grammar.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Perform financial calculations, compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability & Independent Judgment:

  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Supervision:

  • This role has not supervisory responsibilities

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, use hands and arms, talk and hear
  • Lift up to 50 pounds. Lift and reach repetitively
  • Color vision and depth perception
  • Must be able to withstand heat and operate restaurant grade kitchen appliances
  • Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological pathogens
  • Noise level varies from quiet to loud
  • Temperature varies from hot to cold
  • Interactive and fast-paced team oriented tasks
  • Demonstrate knowledge of chemistry methods and associated QC
  • Follow good laboratory practices (GLP)
  • Proficient in the use of standards in compliance with client specifications
  • Interpret written methods in order to perform them
  • Working knowledge of LIMS
  • Ability to multitask and quickly move from one task to the next
  • Ability to complete tasks with accuracy
  • General knowledge of all FSNS safety protocols and general OSHA laboratory safety guidelines
  • Working knowledge of ISO 17025 Quality procedures general to their primary job and area of responsibility
  • Ability to perform laboratory opening and closing procedures
