Job Description

I. Purpose

The purpose of this position is to set up 2 lines making up 1 bag machine to produce bags and make adjustments as needed to maintain the run process of each job for a good quality product. This includes packing bags in cartons after each wicket is filled with the appropriate count of bags.

II. Duties

Task 1: Machine Operation

  • Make hand adjustments to Bag Machine as needed with every job change. Control panel has a height of 49.5"- 61.5" with a 18"-20" reach to push button and turn dial controls.
  • Re-web machine if webbing breaks during a job. The webbing area has a top height of 80" and the bottom rollers are at 34."
  • Change punch units and adjust knife placement on Bag machine, and/or set electrical eye.
  • Stop and re-start machine after adjustments are made, if necessary.
  • Place metal wicket on wicket holder.
  • Place cardboard chip holder on metal wicket prongs.
  • Place rubber washers over cardboard on metal wickets.

Task 2: Packing

  • Remove flat boxes from supply table and unfold to make a packing box.

(Supply table is 39" high x 32" wide x 30" deep and holds cardboard boxes, stickers, wickets, and " rubber stoppers.)

  • Place appropriate sticker on packing box.
  • Ensure as the machine cuts the bags that the paddles are placing the bags correctly on the prongs of the metal wicket holder.
  • Move wicket when bag count is completed to the wicket stand.
  • Pull out any bad bags before packing in the box and discard bag bags in waste bins.
  • Place another cardboard holder and rubber washer on top of bags through the wicket prongs.
  • Remove entire wicket of bags from holding area for packing. (Wicket holders are set at the appropriate height for each operator with ergonomics in mind, approx.. 41"- 46" high.)
  • Carry completed wickets 6-10 feet and place into packing box.
  • Push completed box of product onto conveyor belt; requires 25" reach to belt.

Task 3: Paperwork

  • Check job assignments and compare for proper labeling.
  • Check off job as they are completed.
  • Place completed jobs in the completed bin hanging on the machine.

Task 4: Clean- up Work Area

  • Pick up bad bags.
  • Sweep up around machine.
  • Use Air Hose to remove debris.
  • Use brass pad and brush to clean hot knife.

III. Knowledge

1. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred, but not required.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to work with and interact effectively and professionally with coworkers in a team environment.
  • Good math skills.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and stay current with all department work instructions and procedures.
  • Good organizational skills.

IV. Contacts

1. Internal

Has daily contact with the Bag Helper about supplies and job orders needed for the Bag Machine. Daily contact with the immediate Crew Leader in relation to work assignments and instructions.

V. Responsibility

  • Safety is top priority.
  • Ensure the set-up of the bag machine is accurate for gusset, holes, etc. on bag being produced per customer's order form.
  • Do quality checks to prevent the customer from receiving out of specification bags or from producing as little waste as possible.
  • Ensure bags are to customer order specifications.
  • Comply with all AIB, Safety, and Company policies.
  • Participate and attend on-site employee meetings.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Willing to work overtime when needed.
