A Day in the Life:

Bunge is committed to delivering world-class legal operations for our global business. As the Global Legal Operations Director, you will have a vital role in leading crucial initiatives and ensuring the flawless execution of our strategic objectives. Your work will have a direct impact on our competitiveness and success in a dynamic global market.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Manage and prepare the annual budget, quarterly forecast updates, and accruals for the department while strictly monitoring the budget to effectively control costs.

  • Build and apply metrics and performance indicators to enhance department operations, including surveys to measure client happiness, staffing, and spending benchmarks. Support the legal leadership team in long-term planning.

  • Develop and implement a technology roadmap, overseeing legal systems and solutions including matter management, contract management, e-billing, e-discovery, entity management, IP/docketing, legal research, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications.

  • Assist the Records Management & Information Technology Governance Manager with records management governance and practices.

  • Build client self-help tools, such as dashboards, toolkits, legal training, Q&A, and process flows, to improve operational efficiencies.

  • Support and facilitate departmental management through data analytics, uncovering trends, finding new efficiencies, and focusing on clear, measurable outcomes. This includes extracting, compiling, and interpreting data for reports and presentations to analyze the department's performance.

  • Facilitate operational change in the department to align with objectives and priorities, emphasizing innovation to streamline routine tasks and reduce lawyer involvement in operational projects.

  • Serve as the liaison between the department and other business functions such as accounting, finance, business technology, procurement, and human resources regarding legal operations matters.

  • Manage the administrative aspects of critical projects, including due diligence and e-discovery.

  • Lead the department's outside counsel and vendor relations, including negotiating rates and fee arrangements, resolving billing issues, updating billing guidelines, and reviewing engagement letters.

  • Manage the addition of law firms and approval of timekeeper rates in the e-billing platform.

  • Identify potential workflow optimizations and develop process workflows between the department and business partners.

  • Collaborate with Deputy General Counsels to determine work allocation and staffing needs. Assist in crafting job requisitions and descriptions with hiring manager and HR.

  • Develop presentations, project proposals, reports, and communications for a wide range of customers and partners.

  • Plan and coordinate global meetings, trainings, and other departmental events to foster consistency and improve communication across the department.

  • Increase operational efficiencies within the department.

  • Perform other functions as required.

Skills/Experience Requirements:

  • 15+ years of experience in a legal operations managerial role, preferably in a corporate legal environment.

  • JD or MBA strongly preferred.

  • Established track record in project management and implementation of systems and processes for legal operations within a distributed team.

  • Extensive experience with legal systems and resources, such as e-billing/matter management tools, contract and document management tools, e-discovery and document review platforms, and artificial intelligence tools.

  • Solid understanding of finance concepts and processes.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Purview.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and data analytical skills.
