Overview

Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

This position is located on the CMOE contract at NASA's Langley Research Center.

Responsibilities

The Structural/Civil Engineering Supervisor is a working manager supervising a professional staff of architects, engineers, designers and drafters in support of Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Tasks and other distinct projects. In addition, this supervisor will be responsible for the staffing, resource allocation, quality of the work and ensuring that project schedules and budgets are maintained. Also, included are responsibilities for the development of project submittals, detailed calculations, reports, studies and designs.

  • Ensures that our' policies, procedures, and standards are adhered to
  • Supervises the designs and ongoing progress of multiple projects
  • Coordinates with NASA Project Managers and Facility Coordinators
  • Assigns, monitors and reviews technical teams progress of workload
  • Monitors the quality of the engineering and technical execution of projects, ensuring good engineering practices
  • Ensures adequate staffing is available to meet the requirements
  • Serves as a liaison between clients, subcontractors, and design teams
  • Reviews plans and prepares technical specifications, contract documents, schedules and estimates
  • Leads, coordinates and reviews the work of the engineer team in addition to the technical support personnel assigned to the project
  • Participates in regular workload forecasting activities and business planning activities
  • Develops and approves the proposed project budgets for engineering proposals
  • Partners with HR in recruitment and employee relations matters for technical personnel
  • Provides for training, mentoring and education of engineering staff


Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required. BS degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and ten (10) to fourteen (14) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree and eight (8) to twelve (12) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. and four (4) to seven (7) years of direct engineering experience from an ABET accredited college or university.

  • Must be self-motivated and have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be a team player and communicate effectively both orally and written
  • Must be experienced in computer applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Familiar with Autodesk software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Simulation, and Inventor in addition to major structural engineering software such as RAM, RISA or STAAD.

Work Environment:

Office / Test/ Industrial Environment - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities. Travel between various facilities/test operations is required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation. (65%)

Equipment and Machines:

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.)

Safety and Personal Protective Equipment. (85%)

Physical Requirements:

The ability to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required. Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs. (35%)
